S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl

Not yet, game's not out for a good while still.

If it's a well coded engine, hopefully it'll be reasonably scalable, so a low end A64, but if not, a good 6800/x800 and 2GB RAM at a total guess to get it running reasonably.

Though same as asking how long is a piece of string at this moment :p

Did you not read Davey's post? No one actually knows right now as it's not out yet.

It also very much depends on your definition of "run". Playable at 20fps, or stonking along at 100fps.

Either way, we don't know.
 
Hopefully not, at guessing, if you can run FEAR / Quake 4 well, as long as it's not a horrid engine, it doesn't look that much better grapically, though the shadow and lighting complexity is quite high, so a decent CPU may be more ideal.

I have a mate that went to the game convention in Germany where Stalker was show cased (multiplayer) and according to the guys from GSC and THQ it was running on a 7800GTX and AMD 4400 with 1 gig ram pretty much maxed out. The engine is brilliant but the AI is still giving the problems. Apparently is is too good and the player might struggle against it. They're toning that down at the moment. Other than that, the game is done. Current rumours indicate a release date towards the end of Feb 2007.

PS.

According to many people in the know. DX8 is where this game really shines. I've seen the new screenshots and it's too colourful. The DX8 is what made me fall in love with this game in the first place
 
can't help but think stalker has just missed it's window now.

looked great a couple of years ago but with dx10 on the horizon ...i dunno.

I have only just started playing this after buying it on Steam last year.

I feel such a fool for not playing this sooner, am loving this game so far.

Is the Steam version patched to the most recent?

I will be downloading the 2009 Complete mod although I find the Visuals more than acceptable considering the engine it was built on.

It should be patched to the most recent version on steam. Got the Steam version myself and the 2009 Complete Mod worked perfectly :) enjoy!
 
Lol, I read the first few posts and was like "WTF?" (especially DaveyD's post).
And yeah, it's patched up the latest version. I highly recommend the STALKER 2009 Complete Mod for it, as it fixes so many bugs, as well as adding more stashes, improved textures and visual effects.
