The Unofficial Fallout 3 Thread

Recently Fallout 3 from Boomerang, played it for a few hours and then it bored me to tears.
I so wanted to love it :(

Broken Steel -> Point Lookout -> The Pitt -> Operation: Anchorage -> Mothership Zeta

All worth playing IMO, some more than others though :)

I liked all the DLC apart from mothership zeta which i only played through before for the weapons .

Definitely agree with both of these statements.

Zeta is really weak and Broken Steel is only the best because of the level cap raise. Point Lookout is fantastic and definitely worth a purchase.

I tried this on 360 when it first came out, but couldn't get into it.

Have been wanting to give it another go, but not sure whether I should bother with GOTY version which costs more in case I once again can't get into it, and I also am unsure of wether to get on 360/ps3/pc.

I know the PS3 version looks the worst. I know the PC version will look the best, but playing on the sofa, even though it's not all that often I get to, will be an impossibility.

Perhaps the regular 360 version and just get broken steel dlc if I like it?

Just wondering - I'm level 24 now and i would think I'm half way in the main story. When should I think about doing the add ons? When I've completed the story or get them all done before I do the final mission?

If you have the add-ons installed the game doesnt end at the final mission, so it doesn't really matter.

Might want to complete BS before PL, PL is pretty tough so I think you're meant to be high 20s before you play it.

Mate I was in the same boat as you I brought fallout 3 begining of last year played it for quite a few hours but got bored and sold it. Anyway when the GOTY edition came out I was tempted being only 30 quid I wanted to give it another go I actually felt stupid for selling it in the first place. One of the most amazing games out at the moment.

I just got the GOTY edition of this, not played it before - looks like a huge game - a little like borderlands but more in-depth?

Sort of. :) There's a lot more emphasis on story and exploring in Fallout imo, but it doesn't sacrifice game play at all.

It'll probably take you a lot longer to find everything in Fallout. :p

Is it worth installing the add ons before i start the main game or wait till i'm at a high level?
You can do it any time you want as enemies levels are comparable to your level but I found it better to do the main game first, then Broken Steel, Operation Anchorage, The Pitt, Point Lookout and Mothership Zeta

Just make sure you install Broken Steel before you hit level 20 as that raises the level cap to 30.
Broken Steel is only playable after you finish the main game so that cannot be played before the end.

This is pretty much what I did.

Broken Steel first after completing the game, then moved onto the others.

You deffo want Broken Steel installed for the higher level cap, but it makes no difference to the main game having all of them installed. :)

I just bought the GOTY edition on PS3, previously played through the main game, most of the sidequests and Broken Steel on my 360. So far I'm about haflway through the main quest and I've done a couple of side quests, as well as finishing Mothership Zeta. I'm halfway through Operation Anchorage which is a bit tedious compared to Zeta.

One thing that's REALLY bugging me is that my game is dropping to single figure FPS's at times, seems to effect the expansions more than the main game. I've read that deleting the game data file will solve this problem, can anybody confirm?

I would install Mothership Zeta and the others as and when you feel like playing them:

At the end of Mothership Zeta you can use the space-ship as your own base / storage - can be pretty useful[/end spoiler]

If the data file is kept smaller this is supposed to give some relief, as is signing out of psn as the alerts can cause problems as well. Its not guaranteed to work, but some have had success, others havent.
