I'm thinking of booking my other half on a trackday over summer for her 21st birthday (she loves speed and driving, and has said she would love to do a trackday so it makes sense).

She currently owns a Panda so a 'bring your own car day' is a no go! Has anyone had experience with some decent organisers? Ideally it would be at Brands Hatch because it's nice and close for her to get to and a nice track in itself.

Also regarding sessions, I've heard that something like the Lambo/Aston/Ferrari experience is pretty poor for the money, 15mins on track and that's your lot kind of thing... Obviously I don't want that to happen, so would it make more sense to book a trackday and hire a Lotus Elise or something similar?

I did one in a lotus elise.

People were going around in the usual supercars but only getting abour 5/6 laps IF THAT.

I went out and got about 16laps I think it was, then after that I went out as a passanger in the lotus which was AWESOME :D

A budget would help, some can be fantastic like Palmer Sport, but the price reflect this.

One of the days I did through RLD's included the following:

Brief tuition in an MGZR
5 Laps of Donington Park in a Ferrari 360
5 Laps in a Fomula Ford Single Seater
4 Laps in a Lotus Elise with an ex-touring car driver.

The tuition was basic, more for safety.
The Ferrari was boring. The instructor wouldn't allow anything.
The Single Seater was amazing. Fast, no instructor, LOADS of fun.
and the 4 laps in the Elise was cool. Seeing what the car could really do.

My next day will be in a single seater. I won't ever do another super car experience as they suck for anyone besides those who get enough from the OMG it's a Ferrari factor.

My old man's done a couple: megane sport and single seaters around brands hatch, the single seater was a waste of time, just a precession and low rev limit, the megane was the most fun apparently, though only a few laps again.

He also did a V8 supercar experience at rockingham, didn't enjoy it due to nasty instructor who was really annoyed that day for some reason, and only a tiny infield track and not many laps.

I'd suggest doing something where you'll get as many laps as possible, as they all seem to be over too quickly. There's also a toss-up between going on a local decent track (but fairly sedately) or going on an airfield type area where they let you punch it a little more.

ive done a few and the best by far was at Thruxton. they actually encouraged you to drive faster (obviously within reason)

drove a cayman, 997 turbo and something else

the 997 had epic shove at 130mph, really was eye opening.

and brands hatch (in an audi TT) they didnt want you to go over 4krpm. yawn

I have done a Ferrari Experience day through Red Letter
and it was amazing
Warm ups were driving a fire engine, and a jeep with reverse controls (turn left, goes right)
Then onto the track in a golf, then chateram 7
followed up by 3/4 ferrari's
someone crashed the f355 :(
£195
well worth it

i dont see anything wrong with that

i drove the cayman at thruxton. i came out of one corner, asked the instructor if he wanted me to pass the MX5 ahead

"you can give it a try, theyre quicker than youd think"

i rang the engine out through 3rd gear and most of 4th and barely caught him at all. they didnt mind you pushing on at all

I did a Brands Hatch Red Letter Day for my 21st birthday. It consisted of about 10 laps in a sporty Megane, followed by a few laps in the same car but driven by an instructor, and then about 10 laps in a single seater, which had an annoying rev limiter. It was very fun for me as I hadn't done anything like it before.

How about this though? - http://www.experiencemad.co.uk/details/index.php?code=KDOD
Something a bit different, if you fancy going to Birmingham for it. You get to actually race others in a tournament style event :)

grand a day but its worth it!

if i was to do it with my own cash, id go for a caterham day or similar. these are the most fun, chuckable option that hopefully they will let you hoon without too many restrictions.
