This is my spec Phenom 2 x4 955 running at 3.8Ghz (never getting above 45c)
Sapphire 5870
Monitor 1920x1200
4Gb dd3 ram
windows 7
broadband 6Mps (highest i can get in my area)

Ive just been on a diffrent forum looking at the new star wars online MMO and was told (by a few people) that my system was 'crap/Okay-ish' for MMO's on High/very high settings :/ Is this true? Must admit only get around 30-55 (with large drops) during gaming on AOC (diretx 10) and champions online gets around 60-70 on High (but once again drops in some areas to around 45-60.

Tbh My computer id say High'ish end. On benchmark program it gets good scores etc. Just out of intrest for MMO's what upgrade would i see more fps increase from? id be more tempted to either get 64bit OS and go with 6-8Gb ram but i dont think id see THAT much increase tbh :/ or go crossfirex with a second 5870 (in the future) Any one got any suggestions?

MMOs are sometimes limited by the processor. WoW especially likes a good high mhz rating (and isn't very well multi threaded).
I'd say your build was "high end" for MMOs, and I'd suggest the people who told you that it was only okay were being elitist maybe.

You might get a few more FPS from a i5 or i7. Never seen many benchmarks on them (silly as they STRESS the processor much more than freaking Crysis ffs), so not sure really.
I know the AMD processors sometimes advance a few FPS over i5/i7 in some games as high resolutions, but I'm not sure which is stronger for MMOs since they use more CPU power anyway!

Tbh i wouldnt be intrested in spending £400 on a new mobo/processor just for a few FPS on a type of game i hardly play :( lol On most benchmarks you do get around 4-5 Fps increase on a 920 i7 at 3.2over the phenom :( id only wana spend £400 on an upgrade if i was to get an amazing increase on fps :( Ah well :( lol

yes, its more than good enough for mmo gaming. I doubt there are a lot of people with better PC's than you, that use it mainly for MMO gaming and not general gaming.

Edit: Although I am surprised by how low your fps is in AoC DX10, have you got your view distance set to max etc? thats how i managed to get a nice low 14fps in one part of AoC, over looking the largest area I could find :)

Sounds like you have a high-end PC that should do very well. If you consider that MMOs are made so that as many people as possible can play them, and therefore are usually less computationally intense than other modern games. I bet you will be in the top 10% of TOR gamers in terms of your hardware specs - if it doesn't run well on your PC then there is something wrong with the game.

I imagine that your hardware will be great for when TOR comes out, personally I wouldn't change anything hardware wise - 8GB is a nice idea but games don't use more than 4GB and the extra RAM sticks will likely restrict your CPU overclock.

The one change I would suggest is getting 64 bit windows so you can actually address all your RAM. The cost of the upgrade will depend on what type of windows 7 you have.

I would agree with the others, I don't think there is much wrong with your computer. I'm not sure what you could do to make a significant improvement to it.

If you are suffering slowdowns it is much more likely to be server side problems, not client side. Are you playing at popular times or in popular areas? In my experience with MMO's (although I haven't played AoC) entering areas with lots of other PC's can cause the game to slow to a crawl.

Looking at your spec the only thing jumps out is the RAM and W7. 32bit OS is really holding you back there (as youll have under 3GB usable with that spec, which is terible for MMOs.)

Best thing I would say is install the 64bit version of W7 and try again. You'll have all your RAM available which will help massively.

Aside from going for 64bit of W7 I would also look at asking for PC tech help on another site as your system is nowhere near "crap to ok-ish" for MMO gaming :p

+1 - thats a decent system and should run any mmo just fine.

Ty guys!! lol i built the pc a few months back my self with games like Starwars online, fallout 3 vegas etc in mind!-_- after seeing the 4th comment "Its an okay computer mate, but **** for near future games like star wars online or any other MMO, get an upgrade asap, prices are really good at mo on CPu's and gpu's. Goodluck" < < an actual quote. -_- Thought id got all my computer info wrong! -_- just wnated to make sure with you guys ;) as i trust you a lot more lolthanks!

P.s well My windows 7 disc broke in the post and they wanted £10 to get a replacment disc -_- so decided just to get an ISO and use my serial on it insted. -_- After downloading it i found it to be 32bit so left it. I may deff start looking around for a 64bit ISO insted ;) thanks for all your help! - Adam :)

legit windows disc has both 32 and 64bit on it, it sthe key that is limited to one or the other.

Whoever that was who said that, is a fool. Prices atm are higher than theyve been for a long time, due to £:$ rates, and your machine is a high spec rig, not top of the line, but high end :)
