My Powercolor 5770 arrived yesterday from OcUK. In the box was the card, cd and instruction sheet.

The card I have has a clear fan, however ones in reviews have a full black cover over all the card and red fan...

I read this on a site, which mine does not have. Have I been sold the wrong version, updated version or downgraded version?

"Inside the package you are going to find not only the HD5770 but also an installation manual that will help you install the video card if you are unfamiliar with the installation process. PowerColor has also packaged a driver CD with the card to make your life a little easier so that you are not looking all over the place and waiting for the download to finish up, but instead you can start using your new card right away. There is a CrossfireX bridge included as well as a DVI to Analog dongle to hook up your analog monitors to the card."

Pics? And check in ccc to compare your clocks.

If i'm correct, all 5000 series PowerColor cards are shipping updated [better] versions with higher clocks and better cooling.

I assume you have this one:

Can't say that cooler fills me with confidence, but still, it is a 5770, just a new design one.

Horrible looking card, if it does look like that, i would send it back.

Who gives a *** how it looks. You should care about how well it performs and how good the cooler is (performance and noise).

Cooler looks quite good actually, less platic stick on tat like others.

Not sure RE the bits missing in the box. But am still tempted by one of these as they are damn cheap.

Ditto.

If the eye candy appears on your monitor, why worry if there is none inside you case ? (unless you`ve "pimped" your PC, that is).

Maybe i should have phrased it in another way, but what i meant was, it looks like it would be a disappointment.

I prefer a cooler like this:

The cooler does look good, but it could be crap for all I know. Not sure if there is no stick on tat or the plastic tat is just very see through.

Tempted by the Vapour card from sapphire though as it is apparently very quiet. Can't do with a loud gfx card ramping up unless I'm in a **** storm of carnage in BF BC2 :D

Yep, thats the one I received from OcUK yesterday. I dont give a crap how it looks, its about 4" smaller than my 8800GT, quieter and at the moment is clocked to 950/1300. It doesnt go any higher than that, guessing because theres no cooling over the memory chips by the look of it.

Could someone at OcUK sales confirm this is the updated version and why I dont have an SLI bridge or any other adapters? I would have preferred the versions as shown in reviews, ie the one with full black cover/cooler that can hit almost 1000 on the core

To hit 1000 on the core you will need to use a voltage tweak (like the MSI Afterburner software), you won't do it on stock voltage.

The black full cover coolers have been being phased out since launch, only XFX still sell cards using them.

Pretty much non of the 5770's have memory cooling, the GDDR5 just doesn't need it, my Vapor-X doesn't have any and hits 1400MHz on the memory.

It all comes down to the memory chips the manufacturers use.

As for the adaptors and CF bridge, that I would be miffed with, I hate it when manufacturers try to save a couple of quid by not giving you the basics, CF bridge should be as standard.

Thanks Hex, i tried the MSI afterburner program but it doesnt save for some reason. When i press save or apply it goes to catalyst overdrive defaults. When overdrive is turned off it goes to stock settings. Voltage on afterburner is greyed out.

Not too bothered about this but slightly annoyed at no sli bridge or adapter, even the box it came it looks like something should be in it (theres a space under the card for adapters/cables etc)

More than likely they removed the voltage adjustment from the pcb to reduce cost, and that'll be why Afterburner can't read it or change it :(

The picture on OcUK clearly shows a card with black cooler and presumably the voltage adjustment in tact (and maybe some adapters in the box too) I didnt receive this card...

That is what the card looked like back when 5770's first came out, they switched over to the egg cooler on the same PCB soon after, and now apparently the cooler you received on the cut down PCB.

So i didnt get the same cooler or PCB as shown in image? I know im being a bit picky but when I expect it to at least come with an SLI bridge as it says "ATI CrossFireX Ready"

If I had know the pcb had changed to not allow volt mods then I may have chosen another one

Most bridges come with the motherboard not the GFX card unless its an expensive one 5800 Series, also SLI is for Nvidia :D

If you try reading through the reviews on the card :

The card itself looks like the Club3D one not like in the picture. also, i recieved no limited edition ruby doll.

on the whole the card is very good. 32 idle and low 50's while gaming on everything maxed out. (nfs shift and crysis).

Crysis: 40+ average (high X2 AA)
Shift: 75-80+ average (max incl. AA)

The cooler does seem to do a good job, although I agree it doesnt look very nice which can be an issue with modding or clear side pannels.

I dont like how many revisions this card is going through with very little information on the changes, this is confusing for the customers.

The Black PCB and V2 cooler was fine as it was, decent looking and a good cooler, it should have stayed that way.

Disabled voltage adjustment on these cards would be a huge bummer to me.

That and the missing Xfire bridge (not sli :p ) I think are its only downfalls. I could easily get a bridge in future if i get another.

Is there a way of enabling the voltage adjustment on the card? It maxes out at 1300memory 950core. On this the fan doesnt even get to 60% when benching.

I have also got a 120mm fan strapped to my hard drive rack pointing directly at the graphics card

You mean the actual Xfire adaptor isnt included? That is cheap :x. It only has one connector, but that is fine for two cards, and using 3 is a waste anyway.

I wonder how much of a premium I could sell my V1s capable of 1000 / 1445 for in a few months time if 5850 prices come down o.O

My cards are like the £144 Xfx black edition / MSI Hawk version now :p
