How to sell my car

I've come up with a problem, the car at the top of my list has now been sold, which wipes away the possibility of a part-exchange, as the other two I am looking at are private and a dealer who doesn't want the ST.

So other than resorting to webuyanycar.com, what options do I have - are there likely to be any dealers that'll take my ST and pay cash, without knocking off obscene amounts for doing so?

If its a nice clean car then a dealer looking for stock will pay good money for it, certainly more than Webuyanycar.

No one is going to want to spend £13-14k on a private sale on this kind of car, this is evident by the amount of these cars still for sale on Piston Heads.

webuyanycar used to give out pants quotes online, after speaking to other people it seems as though they've changed tactic somewhat. For some cars they're offering more reasonable quotes, asking you to visit someone for a valuation and then knocking a load off what they offered you.

Back to the OP, private is your best bet. Just price it well and you should shift it pretty quick and probably still get more than a dealer would offer for cash anyway.

Well, I've just spoken to my local Ford dealer, and they claim they'll take it, pending an inspection - so I guess I'll try and get it washed tomorrow, and take it down to them.

I guess it depends on how much they'll offer though, if they go knocking huge amounts off because its one way transaction, then I'll be forced to keep hold of it :/

I don't agree - for something like an E46 M3, then yes, it would probably sell. But a Focus, on the Isle of Wight? Don't see it personally.

Webuyanycar.com offered me over £2k more than I paid for my M3 in the week that I bought it.

I also bought it privately. Owners forums are your best bet.

I think you'll be very lucky to get more from a dealer than you would privately.

I don't expect to get more, but selling privately is hassle, and time consuming - a car of this age loses money by the month :D

Webuyanycar offer £10,885, as I suspected, far too low.

what reg & mileage is it? is it an ST500?

you should be able to get a fair bit more for a quick private sale. if you find out what the dealer is offering then you know what you are aiming for and can value what your time is worth trying to get anymore. I would think you could easily get £500+ on the dealer price (unless they are feeling very generous) on a quick private sale.

2008 57 - 26k and Yes, ST500.

I'd happily forfeit £500 on the dealer price to avoid the hassles of a private sale.

Please remember that I live on the Isle of Wight, this is a huge put off for many prospective buyers.

if £500 isnt enough then put a private ad up that is £1000 over the dealer price and put no offers. (people still might try a little bit). If not joy after a week or two then maybe reconsider the dealer price?

surely at £1000 difference its at least worth a try?
