I can haz hood. I bought some repro 1932 Ford bonnet catches and fitted up a hood to the car. It came with a one piece hood made of galv steel which is really wobbly and bendy and I couldn't for the life of me work out how the old owner held it on. There's a bolt at the back and two badly fitting slots at the front which were just asking it to blow off on the motorway...

I've used some repro 1932 pulldown latches, which are the spring loaded T-bar shaped ones which hook through the sides. They work really well and as a precaution I've reinforced the front slots with washers and they wing-nut on.

It's quite nose heavy but I kinda like it. Space in there for a flathead straight 6 ;)

See the old mountings that I've bodged er, I mean beefed up with washers and added a pair of '32 catches each side:

The plan is I'm going to cut down the middle of the bonnet and hinge it as per original. There are two huge holes cut in the top that I need to fill first, then add a steel piano hinge from RS. I'm replacing the exhausts for some that run under the car and when I do that I'm going to cut the sides off this hood and remake them properly, and I'll get rid of the old wingnut mountings at the same time because they look messy.

In the meantime I have a big empty space in the garage where the hood was sat, kind of the right size space to rebuild an Anglia engine in ;)

WOWOWOWOWOW!

Cool mate!!

When did you get this?

Lets see the engine.
Lol, I've had it since September. Here's a pic without the top:

It's a 4 litre flathead V8. Got about 110hp and about 5 millionty pounds of torque at 3500rpm with a lot of fuss

I wish you lived closer than some 400 miles away. :(

I would love a run in that!!

hehe, 110 in that could be quite fun though.. :D

Its looks like brum!!

If I'm not mistaken, I used to spot this every now and then when I popped into my gym. Always caught my eye!

Is the plan to paint this jonny?
What engine would this have had from new? - the 4l v8 you mention sounds quite powerful for the 30s?
Any plans for an engine swap then?

This isn't something I would be remotely interested in owning, but its awesomely cool :D

This thing intrigues me like nothing else.. and in a good way.. 1930s! That car is EIGHTY odd years old! Pics of the interior?

What are the performance stats like? Whats the gearbox like? How good are the brakes?

Performace stats on a gearbox?

Or are you asking if it has a gearbox?

You confuse me young lad :p

;)

Its probably just one straight cut gear.. forward! :p

Guildford, parked up in the Travelodge? Yep, that's one of my regular haunts :p

Do you have have any videos of it running Jonny?
Not yet, I'm trying to get hold of a camera that can handle the noise :D

Yep, will be painting it eventually. The patina is cool but I want to give it an old style paint job, so either coach enamel or a faked up old paint job so it's not too shiny.

I think T's originally had a 3.5l inline sidevalve 4 and would have been about 15hp. No plan to change it. This is a proper traditional hotrod motor and will get some tuning goodies as I find them

It's got a 5-speed box mated up to the flattie so cruises quite well and does about 110mph flat out. It's not quick by any stretch of the imagination but the torque takes you by surprise. Brakes are 12" drums all round, converted from cable to hydraulic with a hidden servo, and are plenty adequate. From back in the day when they put huuuuge brakes on cars :D

It's like ask great-grandad up in here. Put the war stories away :D

Anyway, my burning question great grandad... what is it supposed to look like back in 1932? Was everything black and white then?

I must admit, I would be a little tempted to drive about without the hood on it for a while

look at my 'BIG block baby' :D

I am not keen on the flame paintwork on it however.. is that staying?
