Paypal - seriously, what?

The guy at Paypal I spoke to was at a loss for words, he could not understand why they had sided with the seller and said if he was looking at the case he would clearly have ruled in my favour. He said though that once the decision is made nothing can be done and suggested I emailed the complaints department..

It sounds like they're just being lazy to be honest, nothing surprises me with Paypal anymore.

I had an almost identical thing happen to me but the opposite way around

I was the seller and the buyer put in a dispute, I provided irrefutable evidence and the buyer provided naff all, Paypal sided with the buyer

luckily they never returned the item to me so the decision was reversed and I got the cash

Exact same thing happened to me, except it was with some revision materials for the GAMSAT. Auction was listed with a picture of the 3 books that I wanted, in 'used' condition and I paid ~£30 for them (RRP is around £65 for the set).

In the post I received stapled photocopies - paypal sided with the seller. Still gives me the rage thinking about it.

That is outrageous.

Paypal are absolute crap, I sold a broken phone on ebay an wrote at the top and bottom of the listing "SOLD AS SEEN" but the person bid and won it at the last second before he even read the description, filed a claim saying it wasn't working and she won.

Did you put that it was broken? Because it can't be 'sold as seen' as the buyer gets no opportunity to see the item..

Surely they were breaking some copy right laws

I wonder what would have happened if you had asked how old the item was, he replies with X and it turns out to be 9 years old?

As one chap said that is outrageous, it is also illegal, to produce photocopies for resale of copyrighted materails in part or in whole, is illegal, and if paypal sided with them you really should re-dispute, stating future police forwarding of evidence. Send that to their complaints department and they will overturn the matter.

So I complained to Paypal.

They replied.

I realise that you are not satisfied with the way your dispute has been
handled. This is an arbitration service offered by PayPal to help
resolve disagreements between buyers and sellers but as you can imagine
it is extremely difficult for us to reach a decision which satisfies all
parties.

While I'm sure it may feel otherwise at times our Protection Services
department deal with all cases objectively and with the intention of
making a fair decision based on what verifiable information is available
at the time. The Buyer Complaint Policy provides a framework which
ensures all our customers are dealt with equally.

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Great, a copy paste job. Just what I wanted.

Reply again then, stating your life could be at risk and you are now X amount of money down due to a false sale

As stated earlier, is the listing still there?

Its pathetic in all honesty...but did you ask how old it was at all? Or did you just buy it?

I just bought it - simply because I wasn't THAT concerned exactly how old it was, and that nearly new, even stretching the concept of nearly new right out to say a couple of years or so, was more than fine for me.

Didn't expect it to be older than my car, mind!

Lesson learned but it still seems ridiculous.
