500 quid budget....really need some help here fellas

I have a friend who wants a new rig for this...

I want a pc in a cool case, i want a good processor capable of photo editing as well as multi tasking at the same time, 4gb ram, dvdrw, card reader, bluetooth, wireless n, firewire, good sound card, 1gb graphics, good cooling & psu

I'm thinking a AMD offering here...what can you spec me?

Then I'd suggest sticking with an i3-530 on that budget. After the cpu, mobo and memory alteration, you'd have enough spare to choose a better hard drive than in the above spec.

yeah he'll be gaming with it but the photo editing is the main bit, he's looking to go dual monitor at some point so an ATI card would be ideal.

Would an i3 (dual core) be as good as an AMD(quadcore) for photo editing?? I wouldn't have thought so but I'll be stood corrected if anyone in the know....knows

You can really make use of the extra cores while encoding, and if you're not using it specifically for gaming then the best choice is probably an Athlon II X4.
