is it safe to use a hoover to clear dust from inside your case ?
turn computer off, then get the nozzle and use to pull dust out ?
safe or not ?

its safe as long as you dont get too excited with it. why dont you just use a paint brush and a wet cloth, that what i use and it cleans quite nicely

If your case gets dusty enough, get yourself a cheap air compressor - they can also be used to inflate car tyres too.

High Performance Electric Pump £24-99 does the job well if you get an air compressor be careful it's not too powerful could end up blasting something off like a capacitor.

NEVER use a hoover, the amount of static generated can easily discharge into your CPU, Ram Mobo and fry it, Dont forget some CPU's only run on 1.25volts and a hoover can generate 3x that in static electricity. My advice is always compressed air and a dry brush. Best to be safe than sorry, would never dream of using hoover on internal componants think that would be suicide :D

Dust in my pc`s drives me mad. to a point where i would start to eat flowers in the garden !. Air pump or air can is the answer. I dust my rigs once a month ;)

I always use hoover, on low-mid function, remove GPU, Ram, and wohoop, then use glove for fans, Hdd rack etc. ... Done it Yesterday by the way, looks like out of box,..

but yeah, remember ^^^ safety points

Hasn't this "myth" been proven wrong before ?

Can't remember the reasoning behind it now and I could be totally wrong! :p

Oh and +1 to filters : Cheap-o filters can be made from tights ;)

I always thought that if a long plastic nossle was used on the end of hover that it should be safe as it cant conduct static.
I think the "myth" is to do with the fans spinning the wrong way if you put hover on them that can cause the discharge problem. But hey i'm sure someone will put the op straight on the facts.

I use baby wipes and a brush myself plus the hover to get into the corners of the case.

Compressed air is good, as long as you hold onto the fans to make sure you don't kill the bearings, but I find there's always some stubborn stuff in heatsinks that requires manual removal. All my intakes are filtered, and I still have to pull furbies out of my fans and heatsinks, but a bit less and less often. I wonder if it cleans the air in my room? Hoovering regularly makes a difference in the prevention war too.
