Turkish Get Ups

This bad boy is terrifying enough Monster KB

Ant

That's the one ;)

OT: Just booked my PT modules starting June 4th and finishing the end of July:) Level 3 starts this weekend and should be finished by the end of April. Core stability on the 27th March, LKB Acadamy on the 28th March.

Going to be a busy boy! :D

Dude, where's that vid where some guy is doing it with a full oly bar!?!

I do like these, but hate them also! Its a weird relationship!

Just did it with a 12kg DB for 5 reps/arm.

Was after squats, shrugs and deadlifts though so it was pretty interesting :p

Definitely felt it sorta 'inside' my shoulder joints so I guess it worked the little muscles in there a lot.

Also meant DB bench afterwards was pretty shattering and I failed earlier than usual. Still, I like them!

HOT DAMN! I struggle with a dumbell!

Have to say I find the amount of strength you would need to hold that amount of weight with a straight arm for so long must be phenomenal!

Aye, I think it's tougher on the forearm and also just requires more body discipline as the barbell will act like a see saw placing more stress everywhere! Looks bloody good fun with a barbell!:D

Since this post I've been doing this for a while. They are awesome.

I'm only up to an olly bar with 5kg on each side at the mo, but form is pucker and this is after a chest workout (where my rotator cuff takes a hammering anyway due to injury).

For a chap with a type II slap lesion, don't think that's half bad :p (PS. Believe it or not but this has actually helped my shoulder).

Awesome stuff! That equates a 30KG KB with lots of wobble!

I found my RC's felt a little bit more solid after some DB get ups.

I've not done these for a while but will be back home on Thursday where my KB's are waiting for me :) Got the workshops/course on Sunday too!

OT: Passed my Level 3 practical :D same as last time didn't do a single thing wrong!

Just did 5 reps for each arm turkish get up with a 20kg barbell. Felt good! Had to have a spot ready just in case as it felt much less steady than with dumbells.

Felt good.

Oh yeah benny, I remember you saying you like training your abs with heavy weights. I've started doing the beginning part of the turkish get up with a 20kg DB for 2x8 on each arm, so basically it's a twisting crunch but with the arm up in the air holding the weight. You can really feel it in abs and obliques! I like it a lot.

So I just lie down with knees bent up, DB in hand with arm extended straight up, then crunch so that shoulder goes towards the opposite hip, then back down again. Doing it for two sets of 8 on each arm gives me serious abs doms.. never had them before! :p

Rawrr - feeling it!

Did the following during lunch with a 16KG Kettebell

Set=
Swing X 20
Snatch X 20
Squat X 20
Cleans X 20
Push Press X 20

Set x 3

Awesome stuff Supercow!

Georges, benny is spot on. The abdominals need hypertrophy and recovery just like any other muscle group for growth, so heavy resistance with failure occuring no later than reps 10-12 are perfect. Balance and prorioception is a different kettle of fish however ;) (as a note, anything that taxes synaptic pathways / CNS should be performed fresh, so if you want to work balance, and anything that requires heavy concentration, ala a BB getup, it's best to do it on its own or at the beginning of a workout).

Ramble aside, I managed a 40kg on my right (uninjured) arm today, still stuck at 37.5kg on the left though. Strength gains are growing quickly, but I keep my reps at a max of 6.

Benny, windmills are just awesome :) How is your lvl3 going? have you got a job in the industry yet?

Level 3 is going good. Practical is passed, case study is handed in, just the Viva & Theory to go. Workshops for core & kettlebells this weekend too.

Still in my final year of Uni! Though back home from Thursday so will start planting some seeds over Easter and also keep my eyes peeled in April/May for potential oppurtunities!

I've worked a bit more on the covering letter but will spend a bit more time on it when I get back home and have you give it the final once over, if that's alright? :)

How are you guys going with your Kettlebells.

I am now up to 24kg on the TGU, 20kg on the Windmills.

I am Currently mixing the Kettlebell exercises with more traditional ones. Seeing great improvements in my size and strength.

Ok these suck.

Ok maybe not these that suck....
Why on earth I thought I'd try with my 30kgs I don't know. 1st attempt *crash*.......... "mark? Mark! What was that?!"
doing them in lounge while rest of family sleeps rocks lol

banged out 5 on each arm though, albeit with a wobble!!
Barbell must be ultra hard!
I'll be doing these for a while I think :)

^I do most of my heavy unsupported lifting outside on the grass, weather permitting. Just means if I need to drop then I don't put a giant hole in the floorboards. Sure the neighbours have caught some pretty horrible images of me wrestling iron up and down the lawn:p
