Hi All,

Having had Nvidia cards since I have had a pc which has been many, many years this is my first experience of a so called excellent ATI card.

I have a problem. I have had this card about 2 months.

I uninstalled using driver sweeper all reminants of nvidia from my system. installed the card no problem and away i went.

I can run the pc fine which is an i7, 6gb 1333 ram, vista 64bit. i can work all day long on the pc - college work, web design, etc but as soon as I go to play a game it won't run.

Even the simplest game like bejewled 2. I click on it to run, cpu usage goes straight up to 100%, game is running in the background but I can't access it and 100% cpu usage will not stop until i close down the game.

Same happens with all my games

Any ideas people?

What program are you using to see that your CPU is being used 100%?

Have you tried checking under the performance tab in windows task manager?

I think that maybe just one core will be being used at 100%, while all the others will be mostly unused as is the case with most single threaded applications.

Unless your running Wndows XP using Driver Sweeper is a bad idea and causes more problems then it fixes and if your running Windows 7 it can happily accommodate two different display adaptors and there accompanying software.

I'm not sure what the fix is, maybe Windows restore and failing that re-installation of the OS.

task manager reports 100% when the game starts. however sometimes it runs perfectly - like 10 minutes ago.

I have gone through the registry this morning and cleared all the nvidia crap out of it, as I was getting can't find a certain dll that wasn't even recognised by google.

Plus I deleted the nvidia corp directory that in anything other than safe mode wouldn't let me delete.

The Nvidia Corp folder is were the Physx software is installed, and will be required by Some games such as Metro 2033, in order for the game to run.

What ATI drivers have you installed... ?

The lastest catalyst ones 10.2

So I do need physx software? I didn't think this was compatible with ATI, plus would this not be in the ATI folder and not nvidia considering the two are not supposed to be related.

Games that support Nvidia's Physx may not run unless the software is installed (in the NV Corp folder), Even though ATI cards don't support it.
I recently got Metro 2033 and It installs the latest NV Physx by default, if you remove it the game won't run :(

Try updating to the 10.3a Preview drivers, the WHQL version will be out in a few days, but the Preview version is basically the same but with a few game performance improvements that did not get added to the WHQL testing in time.

These new drivers are wicked. Hadn't seen the hydravision before and that is way cool.

Thanks I'll see how it goes from here on in.
