Got about £100 to spend on a good set,my soundcard is Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium - Fatal1ty Professional Series 7.1 Sound Card.

sennheiser.

Not exactly a specific suggestion, but it is a good one nonetheless. Thankfully not a suggestion that Creative Fatal1ty's are great and as good as £100 headphones. :p

Are you looking for just headphones or are you after a mic too? I am going to say the usual, Senn HD555's and either a desk mic, or a clip on one, should you want one.

I would also throw Goldring's DR150's headphones in there aswell, but I am starting to appreciate Uriel's advice more now, that Goldring phones are best suited to Dolby Headphone found on the Xonar's, and phones with angled drivers, like the HD555's, work better with CMSS 3D on the X-Fi's.

If you want the mic attached then take a look at Razer's Carcharias headset.

i would have said the hd555's, but i couldn't remember the number lol.

If you want a mic attached, I love my PC350's, jsut have to remember to put the EQ to a bass setting as otherwise they don't have any bass :(

I also vote for 555 or similar. Quite a few times I've been called a haxor because my 595s are so good for locating people by sound. :@

I`ll have a look at the 555`s would it be worth me paying the extra for the 595`s? i would like to take advantage of my 7.1 soundcard but from what ive read you cant do it very well with headphones.

EDIT:No mic at all as i dont use vent/teamspeak.

you dont get 7.1 headphones, and the 5.1 headphone offerings are rubbish, you can't get the effect that in such a small space. Use cmss 3d to emulate it (so you still need a good soundcard etc) and itll sound pretty awesome, better than any 5.1 headphones

I have the gainward 5.1 headset (4 speakers in each cup) - I think there pretty good but obviously atm cant compare to dolby headphone on stereo headset. What makes dolby emulated better than actual 5.1 headphones?

These are what I have - http://www.devhardware.com/c/a/Sound-Cards/Gainward-Hollywood-at-Home-SoundXplosion-Pack-Review/7/

I'm currently looking at getting a xonar D1 to replace my SB LIve 5.1 that now isnt working as I have 4gb of ram and it apaprently wont work with that...

sb live 5.1 wont work with 4gb ram? damn, that ruins my plan of using one in my 4gb system ffs lol.

On the dolby surround over stereo compared to 5.1 headphones: Its more accurate, and the sound quality is far higher, since the the money has gone into two decent drivers instead of lots of smaller ones etc. Some of it is going to be purely that it was an upgrade for me, from an audigy 2 with medusa 5.1's to a xonar d2 with the medusa's then getting the pc350's.

Back when 5.1 headsets first came out, they were better than the emulated version, but then the emulated software versions got a damn site better :)

I know it sux on the sb live 5.1..... there are some beta home made drivers (search for KX drivers) but tbh I couldnt be bothered to get them working and it seemed a good time to try an upgrade.

I get immense accuracy from my 5.1 headphones on both the old sb live & from my onboard al888. the only down side to the al888 is that it doesnt sound as good, more muffled and after 2 days trying to change the settings to suit pulled out my hair and switched off the EQ & left to carpeted hall.....

I will have a think about the DR50's with the xonar, I guess if nothing else I can use them for the home cinema late at night :) When I get the Xonar D1 I'll let you know how it sounds analogue 5.1 headphone and via stereo emulated.

I've tried for several hours to look for a review to confirm the dolby headphone is better than 5.1 headphones but my eyes hurt from all the reading now...

I didnt read it in reviews specifically, they just said it was good etc (and some teathing problems, this was over a year ago though). I found out from many a kind soul on here telling me :)

the dx1 comes with dolby surround right?

yeah dolby headphones etc. I also have a sony str-db 940 5.1 dolby & DTS amp I could output from my optical al888 straight to that and have the dolby headphones off that as a thought.....

Imagine a pair of new shoes, all stiff and maybe uncomfortable. When you have worn them in they become more comfortable. With headphones, burning them in refers to a similar process, just using them so the drivers become worn in, so to speak. Many headphones get better once the drivers are worn in. :)
