***Official OCUK Deadlift Challenge***

What you on about not on the non assisted league I'm only using chalk:confused:.

It's no problem I'll pull from the deck.

The squating and deadlifting has caused all the blood to drain away from FF's brain :p

I plan on giving this ago sometime this week, probably shoot for 1xbw 90kg to start with

Well I'll have a good play around later to see how my rotator cuff feels. I managed 400 kilos on a seated row the other day murdering the cable as a consequence! So I think my grip is still good.

Too busy to film.

Think I'll have to do my entry when I'm in Poland in 2 weeks as it will only be me and the PLer in the gym :)

How did you get into sumo DL neon? Do you prefer it to normal deadlift?

I used to do normal DL, but struggled getting my arse low enough with my legs closer together, maybe due to my hip flexibility. I gave sumo deadlift a go and right from the off it felt much more comfortable. It's a preference thing really - it felt much better so I stuck with it.

Good stuff, I never got on with sumo - you seem to have nailed it though.

I think that might be where the confusion lies, it looks as if you might choose to use straps to supplement the chalk.

Yup that's what I meant. :)

I ment for everyone! Everyones grip fails in the end.

True it is the weakest point.

Think I'll give my BW lift a go tomorrow :D DOMS seem to have eased of significantly. Hopefully be gone/minimal by tomorrow afternoon. If not they shouldn't hinder me too much. Never had such intense DOMS in my hamstrings, unreal!

Hopefully should be reasonably empty in the gym at 3PM though it's student night so might be the afternoon rush early.

This isn't directed at neon in particular, but doesn't sumo DL'ing give you a slight advantage over normal stance? With the legs further apart you haven't got quite as far to lift.

In theory, yes it does, this has been debated in PLing circles for ages but in my opinion it gives little, if any advantage when you consider the very slight extra distance. I'd imagine there are many more variables that would overshadow a small distance difference when doing a lift. Both are legal in powerlifting and I think the stance choice is more of a comfort thing rather than to get any kind of advantage.

Yeah it's perfectly legal, for the sake of a few inches in lifting height, it doesn't take away the strength needed to lift the bar. It helps to mitigate "weaknesses" in flexibility or ability for the "classical" DL lift. IMO nothing wrong with sumo DL - I just don't get on with it!

The only problem is see with it is dropping the weight on your foot! :o

Some people have their foot scraping the plates and then drop 300kilos from the top of the rep!

Well that's why we have moved to a time based event rather than until you drop it, so you can change your footing if needed :)

holy pants! my 1 rep max is 2x BW!

will have a crack at this :) getting a new camera soon so will be able to shoot vids.

Big grin on my face :D

This was pritty killer actually. Some real glute & back pump. Hamstrings still a bit sore too!

Sorry about the purple lines, a sensor in my camera is borked.

Morning Weight: 87KG (Have had 4 bowel movements today before training for some reason?!:eek::eek:)
Bar Weight: 87.5KG (20,10,2.5,1.25 a side)
Reps Achieved: 45

Can somebody double check my reps please

....Any particular reason for the quickness? Unless your comfortable with the weight obviously :p

I'd always imagine its better to go slower?

Man I could feel the lower back burn on those last few. Really good pace though mate, much better endurance than me :p I reckon if you redid it (doubt you want to but anyway) you could get 50. We'll see how the leaderboard looks in a few weeks but I can see that being a winner for quite a while :D

EDIT: Delvis- in a race of 'how many reps in a minute' its better to go slower???

It's a max rep challenge?! For the 1.5xBW & 2xBW they will be more challenging and require pacing myself. That weight for me isn't particular challenging. As you can see I didn't need to stop during the minute so going slower would only lower my achieved reps ;)

Cheers. 2 months of expletive intervals have made my aerobic & anaerobic energy systems supreme! Could deffinatley crank a few more reps out if I wasn't suffering from some ham/glute doms slightly. Was only aiming for 30. Such a long minute though. I do shout 'TIME?!' near the end and get a *******ing from my ex training partner for doing so :p
