5870 is using a 0.8 amp fan, so 10 watts maximum I think?

9.6 watt if its a 12v fan. I'm 99% sure it will be.

The fan wattage is included in the total power draw for the card, as that is limited by the PCI-E aux power cables.

inefficiency at its best. gtx480 = 2900xt in terms of how right its going to end up being. Rubbish is an understatement.

Is Nvidia's TDP worked out from an average or maximum ?

Its just I cant see the card needing to put 1.8 amp to the fan that often, if ever.

agreed maybe they are just making sure it can really power up if needed.
some places seem to say very hot and loud other say not too bad....we will just have to wait and see.
