In a bit of a predicament - Job wise -

I wouldn't feel to bad about this job mate, they don't sound like a loyal bunch if they have replaced your runner job already. Especially as they themselves put you into that situation!

Well they had to get a replacement since i think they thought it was a permanent thing with the mix engineer and assistant, i can see myself just dragging myself through life now with a crap job at weather spoons or in a bar, i really want to go to America to work in the music industry, so i guess i'll save for a year or something, my life sucks.

TBH they are the perfect example of using people for free. That industry is well known for using people for free with the promise of money in the future. You were probably unlikely to get anywhere anyway and now showing that you aren't 110% committed (or at least that is what they think) they will just get someone else in willing to work full time for free...

Why dont you get your mum to pay for you to go to USA rather than your driving tests, follow your dream now whilst you have no ties!

If your prepared to do unpaid work at home, you may just land a great job opportunity in USA...

you got just as much chance as the other people they are trialling, ask em when they want you in again, let em know your keen.

And hell, if this one doesnt work out there's other studios etc so chill out, enquire to other places, take your course, your studio experience somewhere else etc, don't give up.

GF stuff, if she doesn't want to see you maybe she doesn't want to be an item anymore? been together long?

I have asked, emailed etc.

Been with her for 6 months, we've gone on a break till her work calms down, second time this has happened.

This is one of the best studios in the country though that's why i'm annoyed.

One of the best studios in the country that doesn't pay the grunts, gives them potentially false impressions of moving up the ladder and then replaces them when they spend a short amount of time shadowing another department, with their say so?

So you worked 300 and odd hours a month for free ? Are people just stupid when they finish college these days. No wonder companies take advantage. This new system they are trying out, its called slavery.

No no, i didn't work 300 hours, i worked 2 shifts per week, there are like 4-5 runners per week and we each do 2 shifts, one more and one night.

The dude that does over 300 hours, is the actual assistant i was learning from, he's paid by the hour.

If you do get dumped and you had specific days you had to work (even a contract) then you are entitled to minimum wage and the company is breaking the law. So if they dump you you could take them to court for the money (someone did this recently). ;)

Obviously if you want a good reference from them you may not want to do this. :p

I don't see the problem here. Why don't you just work the hours that you would have been running for and just make as good as an impression shadowing the assistant engineeer guy as possible?

Talk to them about the situation? Ask them about any other jobs around the building that you could do as well to earn a bit of money. That way they will either get the hint and pay you, or they dont think you are that valuable and you should look elsewhere.

The engineer and assistant have gone to jamaica for two weeks for another album, and he is trying out other candidates, since he doesn't know what he wants in one for now.

Yeah but again, what's the problem? If he wasn't getting paid for running and they're trialling out other engineers doesn't this free up some time for temporary work?

Yeah it does, but i mean i feel i've ruined the chance now to work with him by saying is it ok to get a part time job aswell as this to earn some income.

If anyone is so unreasonable that they can't see someone also needs some means to earn to live, I'd not be giving them my time - prospect of a fabulous opportunity or not!

dude they can't expect you to live on free air alone, im sure they all get paid so they will know you have to work, untill they say we liked someone else better for the job your in with a shot and if it doesnt work out go to another studio or do more running again.

if you've been on two breaks already in 6months, somethings possibly wrong.
