I've never been one to bother about how my hair looks and generally I just buy hair products that are on offer :)

Just went to get my hair chopped and usually I get the same cut everytime, short and spikey on top and number 2 back and sides BUT this time I asked if I could keep some length and just cut into the top etc.

Right, the look im looking for it a natural one, im fed up of stiff spikes (oh er) so what I think I will need is a paste/wax/putty of some sorts. My hair is quite fine but theres loads of it so it seems to get clumpy and fluffy.

Any suggestions?

I use Dax Wax but my hair is quite thick and hard to manage, Dax is the only stuff that has ever been able to hold my hair in any sort of style, gel just makes my hair look wet and doesn't do anything, same as the "lighter" waxes

Won't be of any use for you though as you don't want "stiff" looking hair and a natural look, lighter waxes will probably be the best option

I either use ganier surf hair, gives a bit more of a fluffy finish, as opposed to defined spikes, but anything but hard.

or VO5 clay type stuff

I'm not a humongous gayboy so just use 59p gel from the corner shop if needed :p

Saying that though, I will buy a tub of Shockwaves/Brylcream non greasy gel if I see it on offer at the super market otherwise my £2.41 in savings goes towards other things \m/

But hair is a bit too long for it at the moment, so some shockwaves wax mixed with a bit of hair putty!

I really don't know how you guys use Dax, the stuff is evil and takes forever to wash out.

I'm currently using Schwarzkopf (sp?) matte effect clay, followed by Black & White hair pomade. Using the two together makes my hair actually manageable.
