Are these OcUK value powers supplies any good? will they do harm to a system when they fail? Are they really high efficiency 80+ Certification?

just looking for a cheapish psu for a sceond build im doing for my mother.

I tend to steer clear of non branded PSUs, cheap ones can lead to serious instability and head aches.

Just my 2p

same here, not that OcUK has bad ones, i just prefer to have something branded as i have friends that used unbranded components and all they have had are trouble (not bought from OcUK)

its only for web surfing, and solitaire lol thats why i wanted to know is these are any good for a cheapo build.

they do look a lot like powercool, and on some site it says powercool makes OCZ power supplies.

80+ isn't awfully high. My Seasonic power supply is rated at 85+, it was the most efficient I could find. I'm sure there's some better ones by now.

To be fair, a lot of people exaggerate how much power they need. I have a 650W corsair in my PC, and its a great PSU, lovely stable rails, and stability certainly isnt an issue with my system, my system idles at a shade over 100watts, and I've never seen it draw more than 250 (since I upgraded to the ATi 5850)... The old 8800GTX used more power.

If you look at a budget mid range 650W powersupply like the OcUK Value PSU's and then consider them as 350W supply, and dont overwork it, the odds are it will be as stable, and reliable as a high end PSU pushed hard.

You can easily run an i7 (8 or 9 series) at stock speeds, a single GPU, an SSD and a hard disk, plus appropriate air cooling etc on a mid range 650W... And thats what these supplies are.. Mid range... They are a world better than the 400-600W PSU's that are thrown in free with many PC cases.

The PSU's are fine for an PC with a single GPU, a couple of HDD's and the usual other stuff all at stock speeds.

If you are planning to overclock/fit extra fans, controllers, multipe GPU/HDD's etc then go for a Corsair/BeQuiet/Zalman etc.

The way I see it is that a powersupply rated at 500W is gonna strain a lot more to output constant 500W (heat-wise), than a powersupply rated at 800W. Might just be me though.

Ok, i just fitted one of these to my dads PC

Its a Powercool unit and he had the 650w none modular unit. Its powering a modest 939 rig with an 8400GS and 4 hard drives

Its quiet, build quality seems good, the cables a pretty long.

If i had to guess who manufactured these id say its seasonic.

I'd go with them StealthXtreme PSU boxs, they look cool, there 80-83% efficient and i've heard they use japansese components AND there real cheap, win win win imo.
