Anyone been away recently?. The missus and me are looking to go away next week for a short break somewhere in the UK. Can't decide where. Just wondered if anyone had been away recently and had a recommendation for places and hotels?. Anyone know of any good special offer type deals?.

Thinking of the Lake District or somewhere similar but open to suggestions.

Ta. :)

Well you're from Scotland, so how about the other side of the United Kingdom. Ever been to St Ives, Someset, Devon etc? Very nice down there.

Edinburgh is even better ;)

yeh lol it's one of the words I can never spell.

I strongly suggest North Norfolk, it's totaly different scenary to Scotland, very nice villages and towns, you got the Broads as well and nice coast at Holkham. Nice Country Manors etc etc

I strongly suggest contact Tourist Info centre's to get all the info on places to say and things to do.

I hear that Center Parcs is better. ;)

But spelled horribly. :D

Try the Lakes.
Try some of the more out of the way places in the Lakes though, head through Boot (don't forget to stop at the wonderful Boot Inn) and over the Hardknott pass (stopping to view the incredibly preserved Roman fort) for an exhilarating drive and some great scenery. Aira force (Ullswater) is beautiful too and Scafell is only one of the many beautiful walks in the area.

Thanks for all the suggestions folks. Just booked up for a couple of days in Harrogate at the Balmoral Hotel. Not been in the area since I was a rookie squaddie in 1987 at the Royal Signals AAC.

Will have a good rake around Yorkshire while we are down there. Just looking to chill and unwind a wee bit so quite looking forward to it.

Cheers. :)
