windows 7 or vista with only 1gb ram?

Hi guys Ive just bought Windows 7 ultimate for my pc and i really like it,

My current laptop runs windows xp very fast, its spec is Core2 duo mobile 1.6 ghz, 1gb ram,


I Think xp is a tad dated now and would like windows 7 or vista on it

Which will run faster?

Will Windows 7 be a lot slower then xp or just a bit

My gf just uses the laptop for facebook and youtube vids
 
Windows 7 runs perfectly fine on 1GB. You will start to feel the strain if you hammer it with loads of running apps, which isn't likely if you use it for browsing only. No idea why peopel still recommend XP these days is beyond me.
 
Outdated, insecure and inefficient. It was a great OS for a long time but at almost 10 years old it is a relic.
 
Windows 7 does a really good job with lower spec machines. It was one of the goals for the OS to have it run better on stuff like notebooks.

As long as you don't expect too much out of the machine it should be a nice little runner. :)
 
Yeh as said, it's just for my gf to use for facebook/msn/ebay/youtube and ms word

really pleased so far, it has transformed my battered old laptop lol
 
It made a big difference on my laptop also. It was only 10 months old when I put Windows 7 on it and it was like night and day compared to Vista. Even a fresh Vista install with none of the Toshiba crap was as snappy as W7.
