Just finished off working my way through Heroic Age.

Thoughts? It started off really really slowly and was pretty meh to begin with but it had a nice premise which was different to allot in the spacey genre.

It didn't really seem to start getting better until say episode 17-18 if memory serves. I thoroughly enjoyed it from then on until the end of the series though.

I'd reccomend checking it out if you like stuff like macross and gundam or just enjoy spacey stuff in general. While the start of the series was a bit down beat it had a very optimistic feel to it in regards to the whole exploration of space and the universe by the end.

While definitely not a classic, it was enjoyable i found. I get the feeling it could have been great if the story had gone into more depth and if some elements had been nailed down a bit more clearly and thoroughly.

It's a wierd take on Greek mythology, and the same person who designed the characters also did the likes of those for Gundam SEED and Fafner in the Azure.

Finished a few things off.

Re-watches of Negima!? which is good although the picture quality sucks in places, (like when they split into three groups when in one of the magical "worlds" ... when they introduce the cooking team the picture is exceedingly poor), and Vandread which was really good mixture of action and comedy in a sci-fi setting.

Also watched Area 88 from the back log ... this was a £2 a disk special from the ADV UK going out of business sale a while a go. Not a bad series about flying mercenaries in a desert combat zone. Not a complicated plot but an enjoyable watch with plenty of dog fighting.

edit: forgot also watched Pt. 4 of the Bandai release of Hayate Combat Butler.

Started watching Gad Guard from the same sale as well which seems ok so far.

Fafner ... picked up the singles and artbox for that in TRSI's spring sale last year (even some LEs) ... thought it was ok but I'd agree that it had the feeling of Evangelion about it ...

.... this evening I've been watching .... erm ..... I forget the title, some anime about girls trying to play baseball in the 1920's (I think it was a Spring '09 show) .... quite an amusing little show with plenty of humour without being stupid. I'll probably finish it tomorrow, (I'm just killing time really waiting for A__a ;)).

(Thanks to the wonders of Google Streetview I have at least managed to locate one of the shops I want to go to in Osaka ... need to take another look around Akihabara though).

I've been out of the Anime Scene for about 4 years now. I used to watch it loads but ran out of spare time.

Can anyone recommend some good - complete - series for me to watch and thus get back into anime?

To give you an idea of what I like:

Hunter x Hunter
Full Metal Alchemist
Law of Ueki
Shaman King
Zatch Bell
Yu yu hakusho
xxxHolic
Death Note

I loved those series dearly. Any of the same styles and quality?

Regards!

Although it should be pointed out that Card Captor Sakura is out of print and when it does come up on auction sites tends to sell for significant sums on money :(

Quite a lot of the Clamp made works tend to feature cross-over of characters, most of them still being the same and/or with a few things changed slightly.

Kobato is one such series I am currently watching and it is so insanely cute and adorable. The Chi twins especially.

Kobato is a series I want to watch but I'll probably wait until it finishes airing before doing so properly (I have seen episode 1 already).

Finished watching the baseball series I was watching earlier .... thought it was quite good.

Watched the Eureka Seven movie on BR at the weekend .... nice quality with good visuals and audio (which may setup does no justice too) ... film itself .... well, a bit meh ... but I do prefer the series to it ...

Well yesterday saw Bludegoing Angel Dokuro-chan, didn't realise there were so few epsiodes, that was some bizzare **** right there, not to mention some sort of story jump between seasons which i had to read up to make sense of

Dokuro Chan is pretty strange, but very funny :)
IIRC the "Special Edition" is still due out in May in the States with a Dub this time :)

I watched Glass Mask episodes 1-6 last night*, which is looking to be rather good, i'm thoroughly enjoying it so far :)

*Was away all weekend, and slept during the day so couldn't sleep last night.

I didn't really like Dokuro-chan (to the extent that I sold my copy) ... the humour just didn't click with me at all.

Been watching Kanamemo last night and this (killing time before I get into the office and pick up my copy of A__a (hopefully tomorrow ;))) .... not bad in a turn you brain off as you go in sort of way .... simple story, amusing characters, not much really happens ... plot was a bit different in that it was a bunch of girls working in a newspaper delivery office. Could have been better but for what it was it was amusing.

Just finished working my way through Gonzos Romeo & Juliet anime.

I thought this was pretty good tbh. Some really nice visuals and a wonderful musical score. Think ill be working my way through Gankutsuou after watching that.

That's good to hear. Romeo & Juliet has been on my "to buy" list since it came out (other things have had precedence) and it is a title I am still interested in getting.

Aye same here, Romeo & Juliet has almost ended up in my basket a couple of times, I may well pick it up next time Rightstuf have a funi sale, or if I can get the UK disks cheap (the exchange rate means that at the moment the R1's cost about £25 per set, the UK disks are about £12-15 each).

I finished up the first set of Glass Mask last night, which I loved and I'm now stuck waiting impatinently for Sentai/Section 23 to announce the second sets release date.

I may pick it up at the end of next month depending on how much I spend when I'm away ...

Watched the first three episodes of Kimi no Todoke last night but that was just killing time waiting for deliveries ... :)

edit:
Corrr, the final A__a artbox is very very tight on its content ... takes a good shake to get stuff out. I'm assuming (looking at the release dates on wikipedia) that the OVA should be watched prior to the third series.

So I'll be starting that or Hidarmari Sketch x365 tonight.

edit2:
I see that ANN has an article on a live action film for Maria-sama ga Miteru for Fall 2010 .... interesting .... :)

Anyone seen the final episode of So Ra No Wo To?

I thought it was a fantastic end tbh :). Actually quite enjoyed this short little series throughout its run, especially with the few episodes that were actually serious with their content. It's a shame it didn't have that balance throughout, i think it would have been far far better if it had purely gone in that direction rather than moe overload throughout most of it. (perhaps the creators were trying to make a point with happy characters in an otherwise screwed up world?)

I'd love a second season of it as theres still loads left unexplained.

Like how its implied that humanity was attacked a long time ago by an outside agressor (aliens perhaps?) and they obviously screwed up the world to the point where it is in the series where everyone writes in french, the romans speak german and there are relics of old advanced technology ( The Takemikazuchi mech, bioweapons) in a world thats regressed technologically and socially a few generations.

I think it would be a bit of a crime if they dont do another season elaborating on that stuff. I know there are two dvd bonus episodes planned but we'll have to wait a while for those and i doubt they will flesh out the points ive listed :(.

I haven't seen the final episode yet, (caught up on 10 and 11 at the weekend though). It has been a very good series so far and even without seeing the final episode I'd agree with you with what appears to have happened previously. Even from the start, where we saw that the "base" was actually an old school and the characters, whilst realising this, didn't have a frame of reference to really understand what they were seeing, it was implied that the time period following after a major catastrophic war of some kind which has push the society backwards.

From a couple of things I've read it's implied that the OVA episodes may be proper story continuations as opposed to side stories, as OVAs tend to be, in fact I did hear that originally that one of them at least, if not both, were going to be part of the main series.

Over all I think that the series could have supported a two cour run and be larger than it was. I didn't find the level of moe too bad, (despite the K-On! goes to war tag it had in some quarters). A second series would be nice and certainly possible.

anyway ....

Been watching the OVA and series 3 of A__a this evening. Watched the OVA and the first five episodes of the series tonight. Visually very nice, (finally A__a in widescreen!), and I like the ED music. Series content itself .... at this point I won't saying anything more than it's very good. I have made some strong impressions so far of the series but I'm not sure how much of a spoiler they will be over the entire series at this point so I won't comment until I've seen the rest.
