The only things I haven't read much about is the RAM & heatsink, any suggestions on them or anything else in the list above?

Thanks

1)id say swap the the WD for the samsung f3 1tb and stick then in raid, surely 2tb would be enough? if not 3 would be also a good option

2)keep the noctua its a good performer and is air = never no risk of spillages

3) the money saved from HDs i would invest in the Corsair 750w modular psu

12gb ram necessary?
I would suggest the Corsair h50 over the DH-14
Instead of the TX650w go for the OCZ Modxtreem 700w

Not really :p

However, I have 8GB currently, no harm in going 12GB considering the slots are there :D

I'll take a look at that PSU. I assume it's modular? Forgot to check whether the one I added was modular.

I've not really decided on what I'm doing to do with the hard drives right now which is why I've just stuck 2 2TBs in there.

I currently have 2 1.5TBs (one data, one backup). The data drive has 130GB left, so I'll be needing more space soon. I might just buy another 2 1TB drives as I'll have the extra 3.5" slots in the case. I also have a couple of 500GBs in my cupboard, so I'll have a think about my data storage solution.

What is it going to be used for?

Everything really. Gaming, browsing, programming

Think power people! It's not about what you use it for, it's about how fast it can go regardless!

on that case stick to you proposed 2x WD 2TBs!

with all those components though id would certainly suggest upgrading to an 750 or even poss 850w psu and modular at that = less cables which brings me onto my next point

HEAT! coming from an owner of the cm-690 id say you definately need a bigger case with better air flow. all those componets will put out quite a bit of heat so suggest going for a larger case such as the the haf 932

12GB of RAM is cool, but please bear in mind that it will limit your CPU and RAM overclocking. This is because using more RAM slots puts more strain on the integrated memory controller on the CPU. Most people (myself included) find that 6GB (3x2GB) is more than enough RAM at the minute, and gives us plenty of headroom with overclocking. I would suggest going for this RAM (1 kit) instead, its much cheaper and slower - but the performance hit will be negligible as the X58 simply has so much memory bandwidth thanks to the triple channel configuration.

The rest of the spec looks great, though I would switch the speakers to these, they are truly excellent.

Thanks for the comments :)

I've never really been into overclocking much which is why I just filled up my current board with 4x 2GB OCZ sticks, however it's probably something I should think about going i7! I know how to (current Q9550 running at 3.4GHz), I've just never based my components on overclocking.

I really would want to stick with 8GB or more as I currently have 8GB which was an excellent boost coming from 4GB under Vista/Windows 7.

I guess triple channel wouldn't work with 4 sticks?

I wouldn't have thought that setup would generate as much heat as my current:
Q9550, Gigabyte P35-DS4, 4x 2GB OCZ 8500, 2x 1.5TB storage, 2x 250GB RAID 0, GTX260, Corsair 620W HX - all inside a Lian Li PC-7 with 2 120mm Yate Loons. The Lian Li PC-7 really doesn't have very good airflow, and it's definitely not as good as the CM960 considering that has a 140mm and a ton of other spaces for fans!

I shall check the Haf out though, looks quite good.

I'll definitely be going modular with the PSU, however considering my current spec and the fact that that works perfectly on a 620W surely the spec in my OP will be perfect on a 620/650w, especially with the lower draw on the hard drives all round.

whilst the cm is a good lil performer i think the haf or a silimiar larger case may be worth it in the long run. about the psu, your proposed setup will be drawing quite a bit of power especially if youre looking to overclock, plus theres the fact that your recommended to leave a 10-20% power over head spare for the best performance. anyway good luck on the build ! :)
