Hi

As you may have read previously in the forum i've not so long ago bought a kobalt Comanche 17 laptop
which has a NVIDIA® GeForce GTX 285M mobile graphics card.

I have read on their own forum that NVIDIA are not making their GeForce GTX 285M mobile graphics chip
their main priority at the moment and therefore there current driver release for this card is very out
of date compared to their desktop Forceware driver releases so I have decided to try and mod the
latest desktop release so it is compatible with my GeForce GTX 285M mobile graphics card.

I have modded the nvam.inf of the latest NVIDIA desktop driver v197.13 with the hardware ID of my mobile chip
and the drivers seem to install with no problems on my laptop but I need someone to check out the
modifications i've done and let me know if i've modded them correctly???

The below screenshot if from the Windows 7 Device Manager containing my mobile graphics cards ID that is needed for doing this and the below download links contain the original Windows 7 x64 197.13 Driver nv_disp.inf file and the same one but with my modifications to GeForce GTX 285M mobile graphics card.

Please check for me and let me know whether i've done any mistakes in the way i've modded them and let me know the way it should have been done.

Thank You!

nVidia have upto 195.81 which is pretty recent for notebooks.

Yes but i don`t think it is compatible with NVIDIA® GeForce GTX 285M mobile graphics card.

The latest driver release for this card is 187.71 which is quite old now and doesn`t have OpenCL compatibility ether which this card does support.

The latest modded release for this card on laptopvideo2go is 190.73 but even then that is a old 2009 release.

It works on my laptop which has a non supported GPU ;)

Its also a recognised way of using desktop drivers with laptops.

Any problems you can always roll back quite easily :D

Well, I think i've managed to mod the drivers properly now.

I followed some instructions on some site i found and notced I did a couple of things wrong but i've now definitely cracked it.

The driver now installes exactly like it does on my desktop computer and all the Computing boxes in GPU-Z tool are now all ticked :D

Thanks a lot guys for responding.
