Handed notice in, fed up!

Why would anyone say that? I have a lot of respect for someone who will leave a company if they are not happy with something.
God knows why they would, but plent have already in this thread.

Why is the defacto view of so many people "yeah, everyone hates their job, just get on with it" seems a truely pathetic view to hold tbh, your job occupies a third (at least) of every working day, it should be something that you consider at least bearable.
Granted the majority of people don't love their jobs, but there's a whole lot of difference between not wanting to do something and really disliking doing it.

If your job is making you unhappy then get a different one, it might be rash handing in your notice before you've got something else, but it's obviously not gone badly yet. No-one on here knows your personal situation, so it's pointless anyone saying that you're an idiot for doing it. It might be easy for you to get another job.

Indeed 18-21k is a very healthy starting salary for most parts of the country.

Exactly.

I resigned after four years from a decent career in line with my degree. I had a plan to go into teaching but it wasn't for me.

I'm now looking at a career job again, its £11 an hour via a temp agency at a lower level than before and a lot, lot, lot, less money. It's only for 12 months.

There simply isn't a lot of opportunity out there and when there is theres hundreds applying for each job.

I have learnt the hardway. Yeh I'll get up on my feet soon enough, hopefully by mid next week but just listen to what we are saying man!!

Just think, no money for beer, no money for holidays, no money for girlfriends, no money for PC's, no money for clothers, no money for music, no money for gym, no money for anything!!!

How are you going to explain this episode to your next employer? Why would someone employ a rage quiter after a mere 6 months employment over someone equally as qualified and in a job or a recent graduate?

Just take my advise, I wish I had listened to my Dad when I raged quit.

EDIT: Jesus H Christ just noticed that your in Ireland, your economy is so bad your country will be like a scene from Mad Max by the summer, DO NOT RESIGN!!!!

You've thrown your toys out of the pram, these are your options going forward:

1) Back down, you lose credibility and the boss knows he can abuse you for ever more.
2) Talk to your boss about how you feel, explain the stress you are feeling and plan a way that you can continue in your role without feeling so bad about it.
3) Go.

I think (2) is your best option, although if you can afford (3) don't worry about it - quality of life is more important than beer and new trainers. If you can't afford the rent or bills for 12 months though I'd not recommend it.

Bad move and youve now ruined any relationship youve had with your employer. We all have ****e days and feel the whole world is against us. So suck it up and get on with it.

Instead of making a rash move about leaving your job as lets face it getting another maybe very hard. Go home discuss your problem with family and really think about it. Discuss it with your boss he will think more of you going to discuss it with you than you just walking out.

Also if you find you really really really hate it there go job hunting while your working so you still have an income.

You have dealt with the whole situation really badly and if I was your boss I would have told you to hop it.

I work in Business Travel and I earn 15k pa. I have decided to go to work today and even though I'm as busy as every, I'm in a more relaxed mood (thanks redbull). I'm going to see if there is any improvement and if there isn't, I'll leave in a few days.

wth is buisness travel?
even if you hate it, suck it up for another few months while you find a new job. they are not that easy to come by.

I do business travel in my current job. In fact most of it just involves driving between offices / sites / locations.

I don't particularly like my job either. But having said that I have never, ever enjoyed any job I've had in the 39 years I've been working. It's just a process, just have to get on with it and think of the money.

Business travel is like a travel agent. for Businesses. If your important enough to be flown to the US at the companies expense your important enough to not waste your own time arranging flights, hire cars and accomodation. basically.

You may have an internal department or out source it to a company like the OP works for.

I'm overworked, underpaid, never thanked and I don't even have the proper equipment to do my job. But at the end of the day, I've got bills to pay so I can't chuck my job in.

Been looking so hard for another job but my second job alone isn't enough really to pay my bills and save for uni. Needless to say though, when I have another job lined up I am probably going to need to change my underwear shortly after handing my notice in, thats how good it'll feel.

Good luck finding a new job but to be honest mate, no matter how bad it gets, you need more work lined up before chucking it in.
Try get it back I would. But look for a new job asap (I've been looking for months, yet to find a suitable position)

Isn't this what your PA is for?

Now your relaxed, go see your boss and at least try and negotiate better conditions, if not you got nothing to loose as you've already quit.

My gf went through 3 years of Uni to be a nurse, can't say the same for the cleaning trade. She is on £21k (which is low for a graduate), 12 hour shifts, and do have to put up with a lot. All nurses now have to graduate from Uni & not school leavers. Try getting facts right 1st :)

Only because she chose the university route, the diploma route requires as you say 5 GCSE C grades. Which is why the pay is about right for the level of qualifications currently required. Its not until 2013 that they are required to do an university course. They are currently paid their worth in regards to how hard the qualifications are, that may change if it requires a higher standard of education when the Diploma access only applies from 2013.

Seems your facts are wrong, not all nurses now have to graduate from uni, until 2013. :)

I havent read the whole thread yet so apologies, but i just thought i would say I did the same a few weeks ago. Overworked, Underpaid, and all the boss does is sit on his bum and not listen to anyones concerns. he just wants an easy life.

I would like nights, its less stressfull and a bit easier for me, so my notice is on "hold" why they try and work something out for me. Shame it has to come to handing your notice in for them to sit up and take note. NHS for you though i suppose.

I have just done the same to go freelance and I am glad I did. I wouldnt have done it if I didnt think I could make a living doing what I do but it is liberating.

If you are young and with no responsibility then why not. I was in my job for just under 2 years and wanted to leave from about 6 months in. The problem for me was that there were mostly bad times but then there would be a few good days. Like a horrendous hangover, the really bad times were soon forgotten and you plod on.

At some point you have to decide what you want to do. In my somewhat limited experience, bosses are very adept at telling employees what they want to hear and stringing them along. My old boss was a really nice bloke but whenever I spoke to him about work and my unhappiness with it he would try and placate me. It all got a bit too much after a while. You feel like you are being treated like an idiot because they think that you cant see past the BS. They can do it because what they say cannot be absolutely rubbished as it is possible, but we all know that what managers say and what actually happens are very different.

By the way, what are you qualified for?
