Sold product, but buyer says is damaged

You buy second hand you always run the risk of it being damaged in transit tbh. It's not nice but sometimes you just have to suck it up, accept it and move on (in regards to the buyer)

I hate the "What do you intend to do about it?" line - having worked on 1st line support before I've heard it many times.

The only thing you should do is assist him in claiming with Royal Mail. One month is plenty of time to test something, even if it wasn't for himself!

"I intend to help you claim compensation for damage in transit. If this is not acceptable to you then I intend to exercise my right to send you a nice **** OFF in 72pt Arial. :)

Have a good day,

Foghorn McBentPins Leghorn"

He's likely bent the pins while attempting to install a CPU like a Sarah Palin trying to talk about politics.

It's unlikely that transit damage caused that otherwise there would be tell tale signs on the box and it would have had to penetrate (LOL I SAID PENETRATE!) the box as well.

A floppy cable damaging it may be possible but still I'd say unlikely, the width of the floppy cable end itself and the shape would mean it would have had to have been shaken quite violently to have such a chance :/

Ignore it, it's a month later, any claims of damage should be done within a few days of receiving something. He must have put the CPU in, damaged the pins himself and now wants to get the money back he lost.

If the floppy cable was loose in the box and there was not a plastic socket cover over the pins to protect them.
Then you did not pack it at all well and suck it up and do the right thing

And if you read the manual it says that a CPU plastic socket cover should be used in transit and most mother board makers will refuse RMA if it does not have one when shipped.

This reply may not help in your situation, but your poor punctuation and grammar in the e-mail correspondence doesn't work in your favour. Try typing a serious e-mail in Word first to check for errors. :)

I'm not emailing the queen or applying for a job. Its about a £17 motherboard that was purchased a month ago!

I understand this. But it's good practise to use proper punctuation and grammar in serious communication, regardless of the amount that is being owed. It "makes" the other person respect you more. But I won't say anymore on this topic. :)

As has already been said, it's been a month. Kindly ask him to stop sending you e-mails if he wants a refund directly from you. But you could help him with claiming from Royal Mail. :)

You come on here and by the look of your first post you are asking for advice either take their advice or stop trolling.

there's no need for that. he didnt ask for advice about his spelling or grammar, which by the way are FAR from being a problem.

As he said, he wanted advice on the situation, not how to construct a paragraph or how to spell 'nit-picker'.

See this kind of thing everyday where I work. Nothing you can really do other than take his word for it unless you have photos of the item before it was shipped.

Usually offering a replacement will sift out the people trying it on over legitimate cases but I'm assuming you have nothing you can offer. Since it's out the agreed return period then you can simply tell him this and refuse (kindly, of course) a return. Since it's not much money they will probably give in and accept the loss. If not then you'll battle it out until one of you cracks. :p
