New DGteam Firmware (DG834GT)

Anyone know if there are any issues with using this on a current Sky Netgear router? Forever having issues with mine and tbh Sky can sod off now! :p

The latest Sky Netgear router is essentially a DG834 V3. DGTeam's firmware for that hasn't been updated since 2008. The original Sky Netgear router (DG834GT) firmware has been udated. Your best bet is to pick up an old Sky Netgear router (pretty cheap) and flash it.

I'm using mine on Sky with no problems.

My Sky Netgear is the GT. When I said current I meant while still using the Sky service :)

Grabbing an old one sounds like a good idea actually, means I have a spare if I stuff it up lol.

Struggling to get the firmware uploaded to an ex-Sky DG834GT. As expected the router refuses to use the unsigned file via the web GUI and the recovery utility freezes in Win7-64. I don't have access to a machine running WinXP.

In Puppy Linux I get the following problem with nftp:

Code:
# pwd
/root
# cd /new
# ls -l
-rwxr-wr-x 1 root root 3653632 2010-03-21 01:36 DG834GT_V1.03.22_DGTeam_1007_eng_adsldrv023o.img
-rwxr-xr-x 1 ftp ftp 12570 2009-05-03 09:02 nftp
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 5900 2010-03-21 01:37 nftp.tar.bz2
# su -c "/new/nftp -u eth0 DG834GT_V1.03.22_DGTeam_1007_eng_adsldrv023o.img"
Sending frame on eth0 (computer-MAC)
Found a router at router-MAC
Router is a DG834GT-1SKUKS
Current version is 121c
Max upgrade size is 36 kb
Could not find "magic hardware header" in this image.
Uploading this is not recommended.

Has anyone come across this issue before?

Mate, I don't mean to be patronising, but can't you use XP-Mode in your Windows 7- x64- link is here http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx

Has anyone tried SNMP yet? Works well just need help on Cacti :P

yep i use the 834gt router on skybb flashed with the latest dgteam firmware and it works fine

All is wrking good for me :) - Sky branded Netgear DG834GT

Has anyone fiddled with the VPN set-up? Im going to give it a go at some stage

XP Mode doesnt work for this (or atleast my half day of trying to get it to...) The device list is just empty in the recovery utility. I event tried the loopback trick.

I had problems updating with the recovery utility, even on server 2003, so I just uploaded using the routers GUI

No offence taken. I didn't even _think_ of trying XP Mode but fortunately did manage to get it done by taking it in to work and using a machine there on the quiet ;)

It seems once you get away from using Sky's or Netgear's own firmware you can easily upgrade DGTeam versions through the web GUI.

im of the "if it aint broke.." school of thought. and being on Be/dynamic I'm reluctant to try this new f/w on my GT.

In particular on GT, to avoid any compatibility issue, we decided to release fw with 3 different drivers:
023o = the latest available with phyrext extensions (please read more documentation)
023b = the latest released with other orig netgear fw
022c = (older and size bigger) the one present on vanilla 1.03.22

each firmware has ONE language www dir
for each language we have 3 different adsl drivers on 3 different img files

for this reason 4 languages x 3 adsl drv = 12 firmware on .zip

Rather than mess with my Sky Netgear router I got a cheap GT off eBay. It appears it was a BT Homehub in a previous life. I updgraded the firmware to 1007 just fine using the GUI and I must say the Router is working flawlessly with Sky Broadband! :)

I especially like the SNR tweak, as my sync has never dropped below 4Mb - when using the Sky router my sync rate would be all over the place! :(

Is it worth updating to the 1012 release? If I do I won't lose my settings will I?

You won't lose your settings on updating from 1007 to 1012, and in my case the modem sync'ed back up immediately. However, I was under the impression it was advisable to perform a 'hard reset' using the pinhole-button on the rear after flashing new firmware which means you would need to input (or perhaps load from file?) your configuration once again.

Upgraded to 1012 the other day using the 'o' version. Got an extra 800k on my BE connection and the 1012 is as stable as the version i upgraded from 0848. Very pleased :)
