has anyone actually tried the nvidia ones yet as they have been out for a while now and i am tempted to purchase the kit but with the recent anouncement of the ATI ones i am not too sure. A lot of my games are supported under nvidia.

They work very well.

You will need a 120hz lcd or a crt for them to work. (or if lucky a special projector setup/plasma/laser display)

ATI has nothing in the pipeline. They only mentioned that maybe sometime in the future a 3rd party may be able to get 3D working with there cards. Which of course is very possible. For 2 years they have been trying, as of yet no success, its a matter of time though.

Are they worth it though?

Look at Blu-ray 3D; a lot of reviewers said that it was interesting to begin with, but the novelty wore off after a couple of movies.

0.o There are a couple of movies on blu-ray 3D ?
Please link to where they can be purchased from.

A fair valid question.

For PC movie watchers. Currently no.. as there are very few movies available. - Very soon TV channels and blu-rays will be released.

For PC Gamers, for RPG. RTS etc yes its great, the immersion is fantastic. For FPS not so much the 3D doesn't help with situations where fast focusing on different areas of the screen constantly change every second. For example It's good with MW2 single player, multiplayer is just too chaotic, trying to focus quickly on multiple areas on 3D at high speed doesnt help my frag count.

For Video/Photo developers, It's incredible! The extra detail can't be replicated by conventional screens. Every Photographer I have shown my 3D setup too has so far also purchased a 3D vision setup. The detail gained by the system cannot be replicated by any other means.

It depends on the person. Some people like 3D and don't get nauseous. Some like it but can't take it after awhile. I'm using it with the Acer GD245HQ and I don't regret getting it. Its not perfect though so do go expecting everything to be ideally rendered. It certainly has come a long way since it was first launched and games are getting better support with it. Mass Effect 2 was awesome though it took some time to adjust aiming. BFBC2 was also great but the minimap doesn't render too well. The best bet is to find a friend who has one and try it. And don't worry if you wear glasses cause its designed to fit on top of it. Framerates doesn't seem to drop when I enable 3D, well maybe I just don't notice it.

Thanks for the responses guys. Personally I think I'd like it, I've been to 3D in the cinema and I enjoyed it - while the other half wasn't mad on it (at all)! I just don't know if it's worth the cost of the 3D glasses and the 120Hz monitor at the moment.

There's seems to be a few from Amazon? - Although most are pre-order. It's quite possible it was US reviews I read, but I definitely have seen them in the UK, HMV for instance.

ah so two things i am lacking now 3d glasses and a 120mhz lcd, not sure where you can find a 30" lcd at 120mhz, is it worth scrapping my monitor and going for a tv? i hope that once you have a pair you dont need to keep on upgrading.

Anyone tried wearing them if htey already wear glasses?

Ahh yes unfortunately those Blu-rays are the 1950's red/green type videos. Which you are required to ware the paper anaglyph glasses.. - The benefit is any screen will work, the downside is that it looks pretty bad, and does strain the eyes. A novelty yes.

Unfortunately no 30" 120hz screens are yet commercially available in the uk (edit you can get mitsubishi laser view TV's that are HUGE and 120hz and cost more than than I care to remember as it was just too much) I think within the next month or 2 you will be able to purchase a sony / samsung / lg true 120hz large tv, for a premium. For the moment you can purchase a 22" Samsung or Viewsonic, or a 24" 1080p screen.

Conventional glasses fit fine under the the 3Dvision ones.

Ah my apologies... wasn't aware, please discard my input on this thread and I'll quietly leave... :D

Hi,

I have the 3d vision and say it is awesome.

As someone above posted, if your into playing fps games to win, then your not going to like it for the reasons described. However if your into it just for fun then it makes the action feel a lot more immersive.
The games that are 3d vision ready are faultless, only way to play the games. Better than the jump from 2d card to 3dfx card gaming. WOW is all i said for a few weeks, still do 5 months later.
The problem is, all games that arent 3d vision ready, work to varying levels. The major problem being crosshairs in fps games. Most of them dont render the crosshair at the right depth, so you end up seeing it in double. Another problem in many games is the name tagss above peopes heads being rendered at screen depth causing the same double vision. I cannot ignore this so still play these games in 2d. Where is when i see the other benefit of the 3d setup, the 120hz screen. I will never play my fps games and other fast moving games on a 60hz screen now, the smoothness is brilliant.
As for the 3d effect in games compared to movies. From my experience, the movies seem to have a depth equivalent to 15% on the 3d vision setup. I think this will be because lots of people seem to take a week or so to work themselves upto 100%. So at the movies they dont want people walking out mid movie, due to the sick feeling from eyestrain.

In fact it is so good, it has caused me to sell my hd5870 that i bought at the same time as the setup. I have ordered a gtx 480, which i did not want to do, especially after seeing to nights reviews. However, im not sure how long the wait will be for and ati 120hz lcd solution. So me being impatient and not wanting to go to long without playing some of the most recent titles, had to go for it. My gtx 260 im currently using just isnt hacking it in the latest games on high settings.

Hope this helps,

Phil.

Baring in mind that to use it effectively (now) you'll probably "need" to buy a GTX470/480 which aren't worth their costs at all.

No point in investing in old out of date nVidia technology (GTX200s).

I would suggest waiting for ATi's implementation considering their cards are far far better value for money, they should be launching it in the next few months.

I didn't enjoy 3d vision on the samsung 22", but on the new acer the ghosting is way reduced and it's a much more enjoyable experience. The only problem is it basically halves your framerate, so you either have to turn graphics settings down or put up with lower fps. Batman AA i am getting about 45fps average atm running 3d, so i've decided to hold off till fermi so i can get a consistant 60fps. Metro 2033 on the other hand, its 3d vision ready but no way is that gonna have a great fps in 3d, so you have to make a choice there of 3D with lower fps and graphical flair, or much higher fps and more bells and whistles, but less immersion.
