Nice walks around stockport,manchester/liverpool coast

Are there any nice places you could have an almost romantic walk / wander / explore followed by a NICE pub type meal around here?

I think Formby sounds nice, with its squirrel reserve or something. and I've had a plod around Etherow park... but i have no idea what else there is around that sort of area.

Formby's pretty decent though the weather's rubbish so the beach will be **** too. Only dog walkers foray there atm.

Yep I live 5 mins away. I only moved here 3 months ago and find the beach very relaxing compared to the city centre. There's a great real ale pub called The Volunteers Canteen too.

Depends where you are driving across from but Formby is great when the weather is nice. Park at the Squirrel Reserve in Freshfield and there are a few trails there to walk around and feed the little red squirrels. There is also Formby Point which is by Lifeboat Road and includes a walk across many rolling dunes before you get to the beach. Near to that is the Devils Hole a HUGE sand dune that people sledge down and snowboarded down in the recent snowy weather.

Crosby beach is not a patch on Formby/Freshfield but does have the attraction of the Anthony Gormley statues- Another Place- as VeNT mentions. For walking, it is more of a promenade. Like I say, if you are driving up that way it is worth a visit for the views across to Wales as well.

Certainly though, the walks around Formby/Freshfield are the best on the Sefton coastline.

I was in there last night, visit regularly and have never ever had a bad meal. They do a range of specials at the weekend with the emphasis on home cooked, fresh ingredients. The specials menu had Chateaubriand on it last night as an example of what to expect.

nice, I was born in crosby but havn't been back in YEARS (like 10 years +)
really want to go up there and see this.
