Switch off tonight at 20:30 and support WWF’s Earth Hour.

WWF want a billion people around the world to switch off their lights for one hour to show you care about climate change.

UK link

Are you going to switch off tonight?

Climate Change is a natural event. I won't bother, my power comes from Sizewell Nuclear Power station anyway so doesn't effect man made climate change.

Nope, Beleive it or not its a saturday night and Id prefer not to sit in the stone age. Yes it sounds selfish but this is the 21st century.

and the power drain caused by 1 billion people turning everything back on at 21:30 will cause the generators etc to work twice as hard, negating the whole thing :p

My lights, PCs, TVs and all the rest will be running as usual. Until someone can definitively prove that climate change isn't the same old natural cycle it has always been, I won't do anything different.

Im with him.

Ok so when you burn fossil fuels you release CO2, Then there is all the extra methane, then lots of other chemicals..

This causes global warming, Its not part of the natural cycle

Vast amounts of fossil fuels dont just come to the surface and set on fire naturally

The only thing which is up for debate is from when/how much we have influenced

I'm not going to. I believe we shouldn't be trying to reduce energy consumption dramatically (only where it's stupid), but generating our energy in a more sensible fashion, that doesn't have massive environmental implications. Invest in solar power. It's the only energy generation method that can realistically meet out energy demands, but it needs more money to research and produce efficient cells and storage methods. This campaign doesn't accomplish anything, though I do believe that all offices should turn lights off at night. I notice loads of places leave them on, which is just a waste of energy.

Why are they making videos? There using up energy! The world will end because of their silly video! NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

They've still got to produce the power even if no-one uses it, its not like they can save up the electricity they produce and you didnt use. Once every one turns their lights on there will be a massive demand and they'll have to prepare fot it else you'll moan that your lights didnt come on and you didnt have any electric.

Like the add breaks in soaps, they wind the generators up to prepare for all the kettles going on, its also why street lights come on in sections not all at once.

People have been banging on about climate change for years and wasted billions on it, i look at it like this, we've come from an ice age, its been getting warmer for longer than we can remember, it'll get colder eventually and then the human race (it we haven't killed each other by then) will spend billions trying to stop global cooling and save endangered species such as the pidgeon and seagull, we'll blame past generations for trying to cool the planet as we now live under 10ft of snow for 4 months a year. And Britain still wont be prepaired as we'll be spending billions in the EU and trying to save the mongolian goat.

Rant over.

Well, if pratinum87 says it's true... :p

Its not part of the natural cycle

Never heard of the coal seam fires that run virtually perpetually, and completely naturally, in China and others, then? Volcanoes and hot springs also throw out a great many nasty chemicals via the same method day in and day out.

The only thing which is up for debate is from when/how much we have influenced
Which is a pretty central to the issue, don't you agree?

Volcanos produce more Co2 than humans. If you really give a toss, plant a tree hippy.. Stupid publicisng WWF
