Which of the new nvidia cards do i need to get to get a decent jump in performance from a 285 gtx?

295 as u can get one for 225-250 and is the bigest bang for buck second had and possible get 175 for your 285 but if you want next gen tech the 5870 would be the one for you but would cost 340+ and in benchmarks not taking dx11 into count are not to far apart

Lot of money for a 2nd card tho that would be better off going towards something with DX11 and better future compatibility.

Prices have already started to fall. I agree with you for the time being.

I don't think I will miss DX11 just yet.

Nice one thanks all.

I cant / cant be bothered with sli, it needs to be a decent single card.

Well, I had 9800GX2 and it was crap, gave me all sorts of problems, so I would stay away from any sli/xfire even on the single PCB.

9800GX2 isn't a great representation of multi GPU at the best of times heh... some rather nasty underlying hardware issues with that setup unfortunatly.
