Looking to prepare for the British summer, would like a jacket for less than £50 that's very lightweight and preferably breathable, no point keeping the rain off if I'm soaked in sweat inside, lol!

Been looking at Goretex Army DPM's on the bay, not really got a clue what to look for really, so any advice is much appreciated.

I've got a North Face jobby, cost about £60 but is very lightweight, has a hood and fully waterproof. Not warm at all!

Don't suppose you know what it's called so I can look it up? Cheers.

Erm, think it was the Resolve but I'd recommend finding a shop that sells NF jackets as they do vary in sizes, I usually wear L but needed XL in this case as the arms were too short.

Avoid those like the plague! Had two and they both leaked! For the money, look at the Berghaus RG-1 instead. Very unlikely to get a Gore-Tex jacket for your budget unless you happen accross a sale of epic proportions, I'm afraid.

Something from somewhere like mountain warehouse or Tog 24 with imitation gore-tex (eg sympatex or drytex) is going to be your best bet.

Oh, and get an outhwaites coat for the dog too :)

I just bought a Regatta mystro jacket for £30 at Yeomanns. Completely waterproof, looks good and is very good quality for a very good price.

I got one from Tog24 recently. I got fed up with all these fashion brands coats not actually being waterproof.

Was only £30 and is 100% waterproof.

I've got a great lightweight North Face waterproof jobby, not cheap but worth it.

Go to a decent outdoor store and they'll sort you out with something.

Agree about the Superdry, it looks a little gay.
Certainly stay away from Regatta, cheap and nasty.
If you can get a Berghaus RG1 for under £50 I'd be very surprised, but as long as you dont mind looking like a chav (they have ruined this coat's reputation) it's a good coat. Found it for £65 at Gooutdoors.
Sprayaway Santiago is probably as good as you'll get sub £50 I'd think. It's pretty light, has a hood, is interactive (you can zip a fleece inside when the temp drops in the winter) and is reasonably breathable.
Edit: But really, you are pretty limited at £50 unless you can wait for a deal to come along. Keep your eye on Gooutdoors as they randomly do some spectacular deals for like one week only (sometimes 1 day only!).
