Hi,

I purchased the Antec 1200 and it arrived damaged and i have to say the case looks a bit flimsy and cheap. What case would you recommend to accommodate my 3 video cards and to give good cooling?

i considered the Raven 2, but from seeing a video review on youtube, if you put a dual slot card in the bottom pci-x slot, you can't fit any hard drives in!

The antec 1200 is a very good case, i have used mine for about 4 months now, and it is not flimsy or cheap. That should accommodate your 5850's.

I would say around £180 tops

It needs to accommodate 3 dual video cards, 4 hard drives and 2 DVD/ Blu ray drives

My coolermaster stacker 832 has done me well, very solid case, but you can't fit a bottom dual slot card in the case

Thanks

tbh i know im going to be called a 'child' by serious builders lol When i buy a case i like to get a pc case that looks good above all else (thats the main part youll be seeing!) thats not to say ill buy any old crap cause it looks good but its a BIG factor. I Mean would you buy a crappy old cotton coverd sofer because it's a bit 'softer' than a nicely designed leather couch?:D

I have athe Nzxt Lexa (black/red) its far from the best looking but it looks nice and finished with a styled door. To me the Corsair Obsidian 800D just looks like a £180 black box with a window.. it may have some REALLY good features.. but it looks so cheap and nasty on the outside :/ It looks worse than a budget dell box lol:( Most cases over £100 start look very generic black boxes, but this one does seem the worst :/

Like i say i KNOW im gunna get called a child and its all down to personal tastes :P id deff go with the Antec 1200 Twelve Hundred Or even the NZXT lexa (my case) only problem ive ever had with it was it wasnt big enough to fit in a 5870! but 5850's are a lot smaller :D so ull be fine!

Eh...you sure you've not got those two confused? The 800D is about as far from cheap and nasty as you could possibly get....it's a premium case built out of premium materials. The Lexa meanwhile....well, that looks cheap (and is cheap). Yeah, I know it's down to opinion but I'm still not sure how you can call the 800D cheap looking! :D

lol all admit lexa do use plastic on the front of the case :( like i say its not the BEST looking :D Nope i deff mean D800! Look at it.. its just square.. no detail :( May be made out of metal .. still looks like a black box :( My mate has one and while it does feel sturdy.. it does look some one..dull :/ Im not dissing any one who has one or anything! Just never got the appeal to that case (spesh for the price) :( Altho i LOVE the black interier!!

I'm guessing you're no fan of classy cases then like Lian Lis etc :p.

in some cases (no pun intended) their allright but i guess their just not to my personal tastes. for £218 id want a nice design that makes it stand out from a generic case and isnt too tacky (e.g dosnt have satans head on the front with red LEDS poking out his Nostrels). Ive seen cases for £30 that look near enough the same as the 800D (apart from materials and the odd button):( It looks too much like currys/pc word budget case at first glance for me :( It does have some amazing features its just ashame about the front.

I think a lot of people have the same feelings when looking at cases with minimalistic designs but they change their mind completely when they see it in the flesh. I remember recommending the Lian Li PC7 to a friend after we couldn't install his components in the tacky one he had previously bought. So while at first, the Lian Li was just something cheap he was buying, upon arrival, we both fell in love with it. It's unlike all those generic boxes. Pictures really don't do them justice. But it's alway a matter of taste as well. My friend prefers his antec 1200 and I personally wouldn't swap my Lian Li B25 for another brand.

As for the OP, check out the Lian LI A70 or A71.

I'm always curious why people go for cases that look like a fighter jet? Unless it adds to the actual performance why choose bright lights etc?

If anything the corsair suits any envionment and looks professional and sleek, while providing exceptional cooling...

Just my 2 cents, but maybe I'm boring :p or just have common sense. I know for me atleast, I don't want friends or even the girlfriend seeing a glowing box of neon in the corner... It looks quite sad when you reach a certain age.

From looking at the expansiom slots on the Lian Li's im not sure they could house a dual slot video card in the bottom slot

The corsair 800d is apparently no good for air cooling, not convinced on that one myself I am sure if you added a kama bay or changed some stuff it might be perfect.
Have a look at the SilverStone Fortress FT02 if you don't like that and are spending £180 on a case I'd stretch to 800d or wait for 700d.

If I had £180 for a case I'd 100% stretch to the corsair 800D it's simply the best case north of £150 imo.
I'd be tempted to wait a month for the 700D.

Yep, i had considered the 800d, sadly though i couldnt stretch my budget any more, settled for the a70f as it cost £146.00.

All this talk of the 800d not being good on air cooling I presume you can add a kama bay so you have some air blowing over the gpus better ?
The middle hdd bay is removable right ?
