the wireless card in my laptop broke a few weeks ago so i had to replace it with a usb belkin one. seems to be working ok except now everytime i try to view the random image thread it gets about 25% done then loses connection. i try as much as i can think of on the laptop but the only way to get it back is to restart the router.

anyone with any ideas why this might be happening? how to stop it? and if not, how to get the wireless back on my laptop rather then having to go all the way upstairs and restart the router?

adapter is made by belkin, and looking online appears to have latest driver. router is netgear and is latest driver as updated recently. can't try a different adapter as this is the only one i got.

Have you tried changing the wi-fi channel? I had something similar and had to change the channel a few times as there were loads of routers in the area using the previous channel number.

Make of router? Latest firmware?

just checking router settings and the router is a WPN824, with Firmware Version V2.0.15_1.0.11

on netgear site this appears to be the latest firmware but i'm unsure of the version router i have, so assumed version 1. any way to find out?

also this is happening to more then just my laptop as a friends laptop is doing the same, when mine goes their's goes as well.

changed the channel twice now, from 7-8-9 and it's still happening.

A general rule of thumb is to use either channel 1, 6, or 11. The other bands tend to overlap. Most routers default to channel 1 or 11, so I usually set mine to channel 6. Some wireless configuration tools will show what channels the other networks in your area are using...
