I need to go to Edinburgh for a weekend in May and I refuse to drive it in my Integra. Where can I look for cheap tickets from Bristol/Southampton/Bournemouth. Want to avoid London as it's a 'mare to travel there after work. All I can find is flights for well over £200 which seems ridiculous!

Dates? Saturday to Sunday? Friday to Sunday? Just yourself traveling?

Easyjet from the 15th to the 16th of May is like £53 for one person return.

EDIT: Prices increase a lot on Fridays to Sundays. Thursday to Saturday works out cheaper, but obviously work conflicting, other plans etc.

Managed to find flights with EasyJet for the last weekend in May for just under £140 but that's still steep in my eyes. Train might be a better option?

For the short time till the trip and the days of the week the flights are on, its probably about right.

Could try the train, will be cheaper but obviously takes longer.

I was in the train station yesterday, I noticed a train from Plymouth on the boards. Once you've factored in all the security checks etc on flights I don't know whether the train would work out a viable option - I can't believe it would be quicker but might not be as much longer as you'd expect.

I flew from Bristol to Edinburgh last October and I've just looked and paid £140 return for 2 adults with Easyjet and only carry on bags. This was flying out and returning the same day and a days worth of parking.

The train was a lot more than this.

More recently we drove to Edinburgh and then to the Highlands. This cost took about 8.5 hours to the Capital with stops and a stop for lunch. at cost about a tank of fuel.

I do easyjet from Bristol to edi often, prefer to fly than spend so much longer on the train!

Yeah I'd recommend the train too. Just had a look and from Bristol* it'll take you 6 hours to get to Edinburgh. That will also take you from city centre to city centre so you don't have to faf around on buses etc. It wouldn't be much difference in time, probably about an hour either way and you get loads more seating room (and a bigger luggage allowance).

*Bristol because I don't know where in Wiltshire you are and thats a big city near it...

I just got the train from Wolves. at the weekend, a lot easier than flying and only £66.

Possilbly quicker if you include the time waiting at the airport.

FlyMaybe do Southampton to Edinburgh but you'll have to pay an extortionate price and endure **** poor relaibility with a lax attitude to customer service.

Going from say Thursday to Saturday is a viable option but one that I'd rather not take as we're massively busy in work in May and we've been told that any time off will be minimum.

If I took the train it'd be from Salisbury and the last time I looked it was around £100 return.
