I disagree that single/dual GPU makes no difference when claiming the "fastest single GPU" crown, the clue is in the phrase. However, when claiming "fastest graphics card", then it makes no difference.

ATI clearly have the bang for buck crown and the fastest card, but there is no denying (apart from RavenXXX2) that the 480 is the fastest GPU.

Does anyone know if there will be a dual-GPU Fermi based card released? Or is it unmanufacturable due to heat/power etc?

You know, I wouldn't even call it the best single GPU, it's on par with a 5870 IMO for the most part, clock the 5870 and the 480 looks even worse of a deal than it already is.

All i am seeing is people defending Nvidia.


It is NOT a better card its not a bad card by far as far as I m concerned they trade blows face it.

however fermi has disappoint me its 6 months late and still not that much quicker if any at all than a 6 month old card AND it runs a lot hotter than a overclocked HD5870 and cost about £100 more.

It's completely irrelevant to the customer whether it has 1 discrete chip or 10, what counts is cost and performance at the end of the day. It used to be an issue when CF and SLI were buggy.

Fermi won't get a dual card without significant changes to the design.

From most of the reviews i have seen it is pretty clear that the 480 is the faster card.

Exactly, and 480 is SLOWER than 2x 5850 despite costing the same, ergo it is not a good deal.

Exactly, I had the same debate with helmutcheese, it's like someone with a Intel Core Solo or something and saying "I have the fastest single CPU in the world, screw your i7 Extreme", it's rubbish.

The fastest single slot GPU is the 5970. People change the goalposts just to make their company look good...

could ati sew nvidia for claiming they have the fastest gpu on the planet ? when clearly the havent
 
The problem is we are not going to see a dual GTX480 so the GTX480 has to fill that spot as well. I think Jokesters argument is totally correct if Nvidia can't build a dual GPU card.

IMO SLI/cross fire should be outlawed until they provide 1-1 scaling, but thats another discussion.
