I was going to get a P6X58D but now I'm going to wait for this.![]()
Same here.. my last rig (HP Factory) just went down. So I decided that I'm going to do a custom build, was going to pick up the P6X58D but when I learned of some problems with the memory, and the PCI-E X16 slots being spaced too close (Because I wan to do 2x 5870s and a PhysX Card) I started looking for a new board. I found the R3E and Am very excited I've been without a PC Since late march (Posting on my PS3 right now) and I Don't want to wait till May.
I am worried because I've heard 2nd week of april, then I've seen couple of months.
I also heard that this thing started mass production on March 25th. Anyone know how long that takes to hit the stores?
And I'm also wondering if maybe Asus will coincide the R3E with the release on Fermi, which is scheduled to be the 16th of April on Newegg... HMM
Thoughts?
It's Sunday!
Stock should be arriving in OCUK pretty soon (Within 2 weeks, I would think) though I'll clarify with a sales person here.
Mass production was around then, but that's not really an issue.
Fermi's already out and available from the 6th I heard - So you could buy a GTX480 and the R3E from OCUK at the same time.

Yea, that Noctua has bigger dimensions than my Asus, although it looks smaller and may have been measured with the fans on
Comparing clip on fan coolers is annoying when they list their dimensions either with or without the extra fans.
Just installed it with the Noctua NH-D14. I couldn't install the chipset cooler because it was only a few mm too tall and stopped the NH-D14 from making full contact with the CPU. I'm not sure how the ASUS cooler will cope though.
Another thing to be wary of is that this board it wider than other x58 boards. While it may fit in most cases, it might be a pain to do so. I've spent an hour sorting out my cables through the motherboard tray holes because the mobo was blocking them partially. Apart from those few niggles, it's looking good!
how do you think this thing will comply with the haf932?
The HAF's a pretty big case isn't it? I'll try and get a comparison pic of the board against my biostar x58 to show the size difference.
I think the dimensions are the same as the Rampage II extreme (which was my last board), which is exactly 1 inch wider than standard atx boards. Fits a HAF922 with room to spare.
Helios - I hear these board has 4pin fan connectors all round. Do you know if it's just the CPU connector which is PWM controlled ?
Also, I read somewhere you can switch the lane configuration on the 16x slots...so instead of the 1st 2 lanes at 16x and the 3rd being 8x which is the default, you can make the 1st and 3rd slot 16x. This would be very handy for people running 2 gpu's and don't want to have them stuffed up beside each other like on the rampage 2.
Ta
Thanks Helios. I have a long asus crossfire bridge so using slot 1 and 3 in 16x mode will be ideal. Great news on PWM support too. I know Asus's most recent board (P6X58D Premium) has a 2nd 4pin header but it lacks the pwm line. Good to hear all the connectors have pwm functionality as all my fans support it.
Looks like this rampage iii is for me then.
Hi Helios1234,
so I take it this motherboard is quality built and worth the money??? All motherboard nowadays should have this but just to make sure, dose this board also have the usual quick F8 boot select menu that ASUS boards normally have when you press the F8 key before the hard drives start to boot that lets you select from a menu that appears what hard drive etc you want to boot from instead of having to change boot order in the bios???
Note: I`m not talking about Windows safe mode F8.
Thanks for responding.
cant ffing wait for this board because ill be ordering it with my other components...

should be a good setup for battlefield bad company 2 right guys?
Yup, I can confirm that pressing F8 brings up with boot select menu.
I don't know what the price will be but it'll be worth it. It has many features that are actually useful and not just gimmicks. Obviously it caters to enthusiasts as well as mainstream users so some of the features may appear useless to some such as the probelt where people can connect their multimeters etc.
Overall it's a good board and performance seems slightly better than my Biostar x58. Overclocking is also easier and for the first time, I've been able to go over 4ghz which my Biostar wouldn't let me do stably.
