I've recently been let down by ****, who sold me a faulty GTX260 (an XFX model). I returned it but the model is now out of stock and **** inform me that they are unlikely to get any more in so are unable to replace it. Initially they told me that they would replace it with another model which would either be equivalent or better, but then when they contacted me with the options all they were willing to offer was a significantly inferior model from Asus which I wasn't happy with, so I took my money instead.

The problem is, no-one reputable seems to have decent GTX260 models in stock any more. There seems to be a similar issue with comparable ATI cards. It would appear that either I have to downgrade or spend significantly more money on a more powerful card, I've got £150 to spend on a replacement card but no cards to buy for that money :(

Can anyone recommend me card that will perform at least as well as my GTX260 that is available for roughly the same money?

Alternatively, as all the cards in this price range seem to be going out of stock and the new highend NVidia cards are about to be made available in a few weeks, does this mean more powerful models are likely to come down in price soon? i.e. can I expect to be able to get a GTX285 or 295 for under £200 if I hold out a month or two?

Thanks

Under £160, go for a 260 if you can find one, or 5770. DX11 on the latter. Closer tot he £160 you could get the overclocked/Vapour-X versions of the 5770.

The 285 and 295 aren't likely to drop in price - they might actually rise. They are end-of-line products - so the same thing will happen with them as happened with your 260.

The 470 and 480 fermis aren't going to be available till mid april, and may not be in large numbers for sometime after: there is no reason to expect high end DX11 cards from ATI or Nvidia to drop in price.

It'll be many months before the mid range (450, etc.) fermi's are available - I'd setting for a HD 5770, or going up to a 5830 or 5850.

It's surprising how GeForce 260GTX remained one of the best mainstream cards for the last two years. Even though it's pricing has gone up from £120 to £150.
