Hi there

I've got a uni interview tomorrow morning and on the letter they say I need to bring in a portfolio of 15-25 images (which i have). They also wrote that I have to bring "an example of your written work to support your application (i.e an essay)".

What essay lol???

I haven't done the subject before so I don't have any essays about it!!!

Do they mean just a general essay to evaluate my writing skills? Or one related to the subject?

Your only option is to take an essay you feel best demonstrates your ability to write them. A particularly well balanced, non-biased piece maybe.

If you have nothing related to the subject, it shouldn't matter as long as you display you're capable of producing them in the future.

Yes. I'm an idiot who leaves everything to the absolute last minute.

Its for photography at Middlesex. I've already got conditional offers from Westminster and Greenwich for IT. I really want to give Middlesex a shot just in case I don't make it into the other two.

Huge fail.

You're either trollin' really badly or you don't deserve to be at Uni.

How on earth do you expect to complete a course with any decent grade at the end if you can't read a letter properly early on to prepare for the interview?

Since it's photography, something that shows skills more relevant to that, since balanced essay writing is presumably less important. Even something you wrote concerning literature maybe, it still shows your ability to look at something and write about it.

The only essays I have are from GCSE Science and English.

Oh well, I'm just gonna go there without one and hope for the best. If I don't get in, at least I wont see the interviewer's face again. :(

I very much doubt you'll have an issue getting in... Most unis in that tier let pretty much everyone onto the course. You would have to really mess something up.

I would guess it is a similar thing to the essay I had to do for my Open Uni photography course in which you had to demonstrate that you could critique both your own and other peoples work along with describing the ideas and technical aspects you used to create the image.

Bit late now though.

Perhaps a 1200 word essay or annotation on a project you did? I.e. If you took multiple shots of an abandoned building or landscape in an area?

The essay would be: Title, Introduction to what you are doing and why, annotate each picture or the best few? Conclude/end.

A rough 2:00am guess anyway, if I was you I would do it don't go quitting or moaning :)
