As title, whats the latest? will the next one have 4gb ram ?, whens the new one out ? im in the market for one and seeing whats happening.

To be honest, you'd have to be a little insane not to just get a Macbook Pro 13" in my opinion. The lower weight is nice but for me the fact it's a same footprint as any other 13" kind of makes it pointless.
And we should really just sticky that link to cut down on the number of "when's there a new x out?" threads

Yeah, tbh you're a bit of a poser if you choose one over the top of the range 13" MBP considering prices. Unless you REALLY need the weight savings etc. The MBP is much better

Well the plan is this......... basically iv just got back from HK and was traveling with a acer aspire one, it was great, just abit chunky (thick) and not quite fast enough to process any photos decently (RAW off a 5D), also the software wasnt quite useful (ubuntu) for photos, I guess i could just install xp and try that.
SO im off traveling again but for a good 6 months in 6 months time or so, and ill need a POWERFUL (as it can be) computer that:
a) Is as light as it can be, its going to be in my hand luggage all the time
b) is tough, its going to be lugged around the world a lot
c) powerful enough to process photos on the fly and have all the tools i need to update my own website, blogs and flickr to a high quality
d) reliable, iv not the time to keep it updated and keep it functioning, i need it to work all the time
Now iv looked at this and the acer aspire 1810T , while the acer is also pretty thin and very powerful with an awesome battery life, I dont think it would be as tough as the air, also I pretty much need iweb, its such a great app, damn why did apple make such good software!! I just wish the hardware was awesome also, (whicih it is, but thats why I also ask when will they update the air) any other ideas to consider ? help would be great.
So now I have the travel bug im off again

They're pretty similar reasons for why I got my first gen Macbook Air. To be honest I do wish I had waited and got the second gen for the bigger hard drives, but I don't think many people saw the Air getting updated as quickly as it did. If there is an update due before you go traveling again then I would really recommend waiting. At the very least you'll be able to pick up a second gen from the refurb store pretty cheep. Keep an eye one the refurb store anyway, I got the top spec one for the same price as the entry level one, only difference is that it didn't come in a pretty box.
As for dealing with photos the Air will do just fine. I'm regularly putting D300 (12MB) and D700 (18MB) RAW files through Lightroom and Photoshop in mine and it deals with them no problem. Battery life can vary a bit, once the fan comes on you will see a noticable drop but you will still get a few hours out of it.
I would really recommend the Air, but only if you can put low weight at the top of your requirements list by a good margin.

Same here. I go scuba diving a lot and weight is a massive premium. That and the fact that I have RAW pictures and hi-def video from my diving to process - well my little Samsung NC10 just couldn't cut it.
Air works great though.
Bit of a toy though considering it gets used maybe twice a quarter

Well yeah thems my reasons, lol, I basically want a fully functioning PC thats as portable as it possibly can be, after carrying my cam, lenses and aspire all the time any weight reduction is a blessing, im thinking ill possibly wait for the refresh, however I really NEED OSX now as im wanting to update my website and I cannot find anything on the PC thats half as useful as iweb, I can programme websites if i needed to but it would take me hours when I can just use iweb to do exactly what I want........do I buy now or wait on update ?

It's a fair argument that whatever you buy is pretty much outdated as soon as you've bought it with regards to tech. The fact is if you need something, and the current spec fulfills that need, then job done.
I mostly agree with that, but right now I think the MBP/Air range are just vastly over-priced for the C2D that runs them. I'm not really price sensitive usually - but right now, I wouldn't buy.
For what it's worth I'm also itching to replace my late 2008 MBP.

Yeah thats interesting advice, it just 'feels' to close to a refresh to jump on and buy one now, also 2gb ram seriously pushing it nowadays. I hope they get on with it though, I do need iweb.
