Dissertation... the final road

I haven't started mine yet at all really, it's due at the end of April. 10,000 words (+/- 5%) on how 'enemies of the people' are represented in Soviet mass culture between 1917 and 1938.

Fun times ahead for me.

I will never forgot the work and time I put into my disser a couple of years ago. I completed mine in about 2 months the rest of the year I planned and did research. However I didn't do so well on my practical work. If I put a bit more time in I would have got a A but came out with a overall B which just got me my 2:1. Oh im so glad those days are over!

You'll love it when you hand in your work at the same time you'll go back home proof read it again and find you forgot to put a full stop or something in. That sucks! :p

Mines due on the 12th. Originally it was due on the 1st April, but the dissertations were not due until mid May last year so the entire computing section started kicking up a fuss due to losing 6 weeks of time so they extended it a bit :)

I started the write up last week, I'll pass 10,000 words today.

But I've been working on this bit since September:

That's an early version of the interface. It goes in a single seat racing car. Engine comes from a CBR600RR.

OBDII or something DIY? I'm planning on making a OBDII device for my final year project, thats a good looking screen.

Started mine in September at a very relaxed pace. Due date was 19th of February. Could have finished by the end of January but ended up arsing around as it was almost finished. Printed and bound the day before hand in in the end.

This time last year I was one month away from handing in my 22k behemoth. I have to say, finding out the mark for it and knowing I could coast my final exams was great.

You'll like back on your dissertation with a mix of pride and 'How the hell did I manage that!'

Quit moaning you lazy layabouts! the deadline was set for this "important" piece of work back in the Autumn, but you instead decided against early submission, in lieu of growing your hair, listening to Emo nonsense, and watching re-runs of Jeremy Kyle on ITV at 2pm whilst indulging in a Pot Noodle breakfast....I pay my taxes to supplement the likes of you lot!

I'm grateful sandy, generous of you to support my hard living costs and the purchasing of various PC hardware... Mind if I upgrade to an eyefinity setup on your behalf? :p

lol :D

I have a nice 4 uninterrupted months after exams to do my dissertation. Will ruin the summer though.

There's no OBD, mostly because the bike hasn't.

I did research an implementation which would use BOSCH CANbus, and speak about it (probably 750 words on that).

For the dissertation it's just a PIC16F877 receiving all the signals from the loom and interpreting them, then instructing the screen.

When I've handed that in and demonstrated, I might be converting it to the CANbus method before the FSAE competition in July.

Mine was handed in two weeks ago and now I can't bring myself to go to classes. Massive high of getting it handed in and now can't motivate myself. Giant kick up the behind planned today.

Im doing non-linear explicit elasto-plastic analsysis of steel portal frames under fire boundary conditions using the ABAQUS finite element program. Ive done a lot of research but still a long way to go, got 3 weeks.

Mines not due in till 8 November, so will no doubt have to force myself to do it over the summer. Good job motivation isn't a problem with me.

Still about 2 sections to write, 3 post-its left stuck to my monitor, I like the way the numbers are turning out. I've been working on it for the last 14 hours straight now, I need to get away.

I feel your pain man. I haven't slept (not even for 1 minute) since Sunday Morning 11am. Amazingly I still have tons of energy to still work! I'm considering doing another all nighter, I reckon I could pull a 48hour for once.

AHH!!! 6 hours to go until submission time.

Progressed from 4/5k to nearly 11k in 2/3 days (didnt work much yesterday).

I hope everyone elses work is going well... I'm currently pondering over the empirical findings which resulted in grabbing a beer at 6am (first time in my life).

Good luck and don't stress people :D

Ah this brings back memories.. good luck people!

Pro Tip: Have a printing contingency plan! And save copies of your dissertation everywhere.. plan for the worse!
