Evening all, Iam hopefully about to purchase my own place shortly and was just after some advice from others who might have there own flat/apartment.

This is the list of bills I can think of...am I missing any?

Mortgage
Service charge
Council Tax
Gas
Electric
Water
TV
Internet
Food
Mobile
(car bills come out of my net pay)

What the best website to find out what the best providers are for ADSL will be and how far from the exchange I will be? Iam assuming cable wont be able to get cable broadband.

Cheers for any advice on this.

Probably a good idea to double whatever you're planning on gas, electric and water. It sucks when the first bill comes through and your direct debit ends up doubling :(

Or just sky everything :D

£85/month for full HD + phone + up to 20mb ADSL if you can get it - mine maxes out happily at 11mb and never had any issues with it :)

If you are getting ADSL you will need a BT line so add that to the list of bills.

Yeah its something I need to check with the developer, but the show apartment comes with a BT line, so iam guessing the other will to. So even tho I dont intend on using the BT line for calls, would I still be charged for using ADSL through it?

Yeah will do, iam hoping that on regular months gas/water/electricity to be around the £100 mark.

Yeah we have skyHD and broadband here, but I doubt I will be able to afford it. Dont really watch that much TV to be honest so cant justify the cost. Will probably just stick to freeview and may get sky in the future.

Contents Insurance?

Oh yeah...and that!

Yes, you will need an active phone line for ADSL.

Good news: water will probably be included in your service charge.

Bad news: I assume you're on a leasehold, so you'll also have to pay ground rent.

Not really ongoing costs as such, but some things to think about. Make sure you have a bed / mattress / blankets and a means to cook food and eat it. Sounds stupid, you probably already have those things, but still needs to be said. You really don't want to be caught cold and hungry on your first night.

There will be a lot of annoying charges just for buying - solicitors fees for arranging the transfer and doing the history search, although I think the home seller pack might cover that these days?

How old is the property? You might want insurance on things like the gas heating system / plumbing. Mortgage payment protection is a total racket but might be worth looking in to if you are concerned about your future job prospects - although buying a property probably means the opposite atm.

Moving might cost, depending on how much stuff you bring with you and how you intend to move it. Removal companies cost a bomb, while you have not comeback if you use your mate's van.

Finally think about any changes you want made, from simple things like changing the locks through to furniture, applicances you are not already bringing.

If you have a partner, chances are home improvements will come up at some point. You will love that :p

Forgot to add, its a new build property.

All I can say is never a lease hold ever again!

£12k is 5 years - unlucky me. Now residing in a detached freehold property - phew.
