Ok, always found the fusion razor ok for me, but took the plunge and got this brushed steel murker and blades..

Maybe i am doing it wrong, but i watched the videos, read the internet about shaving, shower before, cream, shave, rip my skin to bits and end up having to use the fusion to get the bits missed by the murker, which is nutz, maybe i got a odd shape face.

Anyone else have issues when using a razor blade shaver for the 1st time?

ColiNfr.

Ps - the murker razor is the one with numbers 1-6 on it.

Buy a blade sample pack:

http://connaughtshaving.com/samplepack.html

The first pack on there looks quite good. Has some decent blades in there (Derby, Feather, Personna (which I'm currently using)).

Some blades are totally savage, and indeed do hack your face to pieces. Feathers are probably the best, but it could be said that they're a little too sharp to use from the outset.

Avoid Gillette like the plague, and you can't go too far wrong.

your probably shaving too fast. I love my safety razor but imo it takes too long to get a good shave out of it to use on a daily basis.

I didnt know there was soo much choice on this topic. I find myself in pain after a shave at the moment, maybe the blades are blunt? poor quailty? im doing it wrong? growth too long?

Spent a small fortune on an eleccie shaver, misses hairs on my jaw line etc.

Maybe i am meant to be hairy?

We are talking about or nuts right????????

People always recommend these on here as they think using one makes them alpha. The reality is that they're just a pain in the arse.

They take too long to shave with when you're in a rush to get ready for work. I'd rather have ten extra minutes in bed and get a (pretty damn good) shave in four minutes from my Gillette Mk III Power and King of Shaves gel.

I went down this road and whilst I would never give up my badger hair brush and quality shaving cream, the safety razors were just too much hastle for me. I'm still using mach 3 and have a great quality, quick shave with none of the downsides.

You've completely missed the point. It's about a better shave and, for some, a better shaving experience. What on earth could be alpha about it?

OP - try some better blades. Feathers are fantastic but perhaps too sharp until you get used to the Merkur. As said, a sample pack is a great and cheap way to find out which blades suit you.

Heh :D.

I use the fsuion blades and have had zero problems. Do not cut my face to ribbons, can shave in a minute or so, nice and smooth, non hairy. Fulfills all my checklist!

And to anyone using electric razors, just no.

I've never had problems with my Merkur, and manage to shave with it in about 5 minutes. Maybe you're doing it wrongly?

Those numbers adjust the aggressiveness of the razor. I don't know which way is more/less aggressive but try dialing it down a bit. Really it is all about getting the pressure and angle right. You should not put any pressure on the blade at all and use short strokes.

How long have you been using it for? It takes a while to get good at using it. I used to miss bits and get cuts, but not anymore and I can do a 3 pass shave in well under 10 minutes.

grrrrrrr - that's the sound of a beard. Bin the razor and get manly. You won't regret it and all women will instantly have a wide on for you.

I cut myself once or twice when I got my merkur a couple of years back,

I find personna blades (sometimes called Israeli blades) the best for me, I can shave completely in 5 mins easily, I usually take a bit of time though and do it properly with a few passes, I can definitely tell the difference when I rush

It was using the sample pack from the site on here already posted, used the feathers as ive heard good things about them.

Will try some other blades and see how I go. Had it on number 1,2 and 3 so far. Just not as easy as I was expecting, but the good things never are lol..

Maybe you have the beard of a 12 year old boy? It's not possible to shave properly in 5 minutes with a Merkur, unless bum fluff is the only obstacle.

I have the same razor - you do get used to it after a bit. Take your time and just let the blade glide. You don't want to force it into your skin. I used the supplied blades but might try some new ones.

I can confirm this

Beards are for real men, Ive been sporting mine for a while now and the misses loves it

And a "wide on" LOL!
