I recently purchased and installed an ATI HD5770 Graphics Card and a day or two later my PC has stopped opening various programmes - ie Flight Simulators, Burning Programme, Advance Checkups etc etc all of which are .exe files. As you can see from this I am able to go online, open my browsers and email client.
I`ve run AVG Pro scanner with nother evil showing and now I am stuck so before I take the dreaded "reformat step" I would be grateful for any ideas or cures (if possible)
Many thanks

that is very wierd. Can you reset the cmos by removing and then replacing the battery on the motherboard?

Believe me that helps most situations lol

Couldn`t get to the battery but hit the "CMOS Clear" button and reset the BIOS details but now I get to Windows Startup with the 4-colour animation and it just sits. So I tried a Startup Repair but after it ran for half an hour I closed down and tried again. Still couldn`t get past the Windows Start.
I have an old spare machine that I am using to write and send this so I will check the forum again tomorrow morning - Hopefully

If this has only started happening since you installed the new GPU, it's possible related to power?

What PSU you running and/or is it possible you've dislodged something whilst installing the new GPU?

I`m using a 700Watt PSU which should be enough but following your thought I`ll open up the case and have anoth close look around

Thanks

I wouldn't rule out malware. Almost every time I get malware it suppresses my AV so it shows up clean.

Try installing malwarebytes fresh in safe mode.

AND THE GOOD NEWS............

had a look inside and one of my 3 RAID HD`s had a power plug loose - refitted it - ran another startup with Windows Startup Repair and Windows started up OK as did the programmes that previous;y wouldn`t work

Many thanks to you guys out there for all your support

Regards to all
