Very sure its between 1.3 to 1.35v. Been reading about it this afternoon and there are some water 5970's out there which get to 1000/1350 and its rock stable according to them. couple have got it 1000/1500 - XFX BE's.

Still awaiting a reply from XFX though. I want them to put the max volt on paper.

Sam

You will be lucky for them to give you the max. Whats 1.3 on MSI 1300? If it is will try it :)

Not quite sure about MSI though buddy. But looking at screenshots they have it at 1299 volts some 1349.

Ok

Just got off the phone with XFX as I grew impatient of waiting for them to reply to my support ticket. I only found out 1 minute into the call that they charge me 60p per minute!!"$!"$!"£$%"£%"£%

But anyway, he says as an xfx repo, just stick to the 1.1625. but he says in general, most cards allow up to 1.35 voltage increases as 1.35 is the voltage 'recommended' limit. But of course he wouldn't say if the XFX BE could do it but I kinda get what he means.

Will be trying this when I get home too!

Keep us updated Danny!

I have had it to 1299 tbh didnt get much of an increase. Just let the water cool and going for a 1000/1300 run.

Was it worth the heat??? I would say nope!
Keep an eye on the temps!!! It push mine from 14C to 20s.

Need to let the water cool its getting warm 10C GPU and 13 CPU on idle. Na its the condensation that kills me.

Hello chaps. Apologies but my screenshot skills failed and for some reason my screenshot is blurred out and my wife might fix it for me tomorrow.

But anyway, here are some scores.

Temperatures - Min 35 Max 54

Tried 1000/1300 Voltage 1.3V
Crashed. I can't work out why I can't get to a 1000mhz clock. Temperatures are fine and my PSU provides more than ample power.

Anyone has any ideas?

Danny - Not sure buddy. I can try and do some research as well!

impressive stuff from this card. to be honest as much as I want one, I don't see myself shelling out £600 for the BE version of this card. Not to mention that XFX have announced that their 4GB BE version is due for release next month sometime. So that's going to be at least £700 if not £800 and really would you pay for that? Wait those ASUS MARS were £1000 and people still bought it, so yes people will but this one too.

That aside, I do like how this card performs. I currently have a 4870X2 under watercooling. And the only way I am going to really enjoy the 5970 is when its also under watercooling. No way could I run it with the stock cooler regardless of how quiet it can be.

They only make 1000 each of those uber expensive ones, and I'm sure there are enough people out there who can actually afford them.

People pay 10x more money for little useless gems for their wives :p

Sam: This will sound daft but stay with me on this :) What you can try is ...... Have you another water pump? if so fill a container put the thing in the freezer until it just starts to freeze and run that though your rig. If you get a BM @1000/1300 you know its the temps.Mainly the VRM over heating. I had the same problems with the stock cooler.

CK: Na mate i have done with spending. Must have spent over 2k in the last 2mths on this lot.She would hang me by the balls :). To get the most from anything you need to water cool it so that adds at least £100 to each card.TBH 4870 are very good cards its only missing DX11 how many games have that 4?? I would wait till the 4gigs are £400.

Idd. I've spent £1200 in the past 3 weeks. Missus would kill me..

Whens the 2nd card going to turn up :) Would love to see those scores. Will blow us all out the water. Get you CPU sorted mate and get some Vantage socres posted :)

Dissy my missus nearly drilled another hole in my arse when she saw my receipt @ Overclockers on Saturday. And we just got married... hehehe . Really keen to check out your 2nd 5970 mate!! Pretty damn sure a lot of us are waiting for you to fire it up!

Danny - Sorry budz I dont have a spare pump..:( I got home really late last night so I stopped @ 1000/1300 when it crashed. I dont actually understand why it would though. my max temperature never exceeded the 54 ish mark.
Will try 1000/1250 when I get home too and this time hopefully i can post a screenshot of things. I just couldn't take a proper screenshot for some reason its just way too wide and when I zoom in it just gets all blurry..

sam

No worries. If your on Win7 just use the snipping tool. It will prob be a temp problem. I would just stay around the 1275 mark and up the Core.

O you could empty the system and freeze that:)
The things we do just for a good benchmark :) i have chilled some pure ethylene glycol to -40 in the past and used that, didnt go that well was to cold for the pump to work and to thick to get good flow.

Just done this
