Ok so about one week ago i tapped this Renault Clio Extreme (3 Door Hatchback) back bumper. We were on a slip road running onto dual carriageway. The outter lane was clear so the first car moves off, at this point i checked to see if its still clear & edged foward extremely slowly but when i look foward she hadnt moved an inch ....i slammed the breaks on soo hard the car shunted foward & couldnt even tell if id hit her.

So we pulled to the side of the road & we swapped details, we looked at our bumpers but she couldnt see any damage at-all. Mine looked totally fine. "we'l swap details just incase" she says.

So i get a text message today from her saying "had a chance to look at my car over the weekend after washing it and there are some scuff marks where the paint has come off the bumber, so i think it needs a respray, not sure if you want to pay or go through your insurance company"

Now my car is totally fine, i dont see any marks on.

Ive been driving for less than one year. Recently changed address, they reduced my insurance by £83 (just turned 25, new address is quite posh area). Which puts it at £900 a year () She offered to get a quote first.

Anything less than £100 & i dont mind paying. But just so happens im poping over to her town to see family. Im tempted to pop around & take a look (with her permission of course), to check it out.

Someone at work told me if i find a better quote, i can make her use them?

You can't make her do anything. If she is willing to not put it through insurance it's up to her what she wants.

Of course you can't. You damaged her car, she is entitled to give you the bill to repair it. If you are not happy with that, then feel free to allow your insurers to take over.

You hit her - she is the innocent party in this.

And you are dreaming if you think a bumper respray will be less than £100. I reckon about £250.

Bah, il make her get a quote first. My insurance is already stupidly high anyway so i can see it going through that in the end.

Cheers people

I had someone leave their handbrake off and it dented and damaged my wing. Cost £150 for the pull and respray. Excellent job, and originally the quote was for £280 from a random town centre bodyshop. The guy asked if I would go to another place and ask there, so I did. I was quite happy to save him money, and he was quite happy as he didn't have to go through the insurance.
Their choice though at the end of the day! Remember, THEY are doing YOU the favour. If you get arsey or anythign else, they will just lodge a claim.

When she gets a quote pop round and have a look or ven better do what i did with a mate when he didn a simular thing if her car is parked on a public road just walk past and a have a quick look.

Bite the bullet and pay her direct. You'll pay the cost a few times over probably in increased premiums for the next year or 2, or 3 etc if you go through insurance.

She's being quite reasonable tbh, just don't hang about making her wait to get the work done ;)

To prevent this happening again, I am sure you are now looking where you're going.;)
