How? Osbourne got the audience laughing at Darling. Osbourne tripped Darling up on the Death Tax that he ruled out and then ruled in again. He also tripped Darling up on Labour finding "£11bn of efficiency savings", but not wanting to tackle the waste for a year because it might "harm the economy".

It was a silent victory for Osbourne, a loud one for Vince (because he got to be on TV) and a loss for Darling.
Who the hell is this Osbourne [sic] of whom you speak

People who won't vote Tory because of Thatcher are quite frankly morons. The modern Conservative party are nothing in any way shape of form like the party they were under Thatcher.
There is some truth in that; the modern Conservative party is led by a bunch of independently wealthy, public school and Oxford educated professional politicians who have never done a days real work in their lives - oh yes, and a proven liar and good friend on non-dom multi-millionaires although he also read Politics, Philosophy, and Economics at Oxford

Are the Labour party really any better? Most of them have never done a days work in their lives, have taken bribes, proven to be good friends with a tax dodgying non-dom peer of their own, abused expenses and the electorate and have a poorer educational history.

Given that all else is pretty much equal, I'll take the well educated over the slightly less well educated if it's all the same :D

I really, really don't get this. Why on earth do people think that being educated at the best schools and universities in our country can actually count against someone? It's utterly perverse.

Couldn't agree with you more. But look on the first page of this thread, she is mentioned THAT quickly. It really is moronic.

Again, I couldn't agree more.... "Oh no, the possible next prime minister has been educated at the best school in the country!!!:mad::mad: "

:confused::confused::confused:

Completely and utterly hit the nail on the head. It's just nuts. And reverse snobbery

I'd rather my politicians made/got their money before politics rather than out of it (Blair, Mandleson, Prescott, Straw, etc, etc). I also do not understand why being educated in some of the world's best schools is a bad thing?

You sound like a green-eyed, envious *****.

Not a proven liar. If you knew anything about the situation, you'd know Ashcroft never lied about anything - and at all times the HMRC and No 10 were kept informed about the situation and undertaking.

I've thought about this, and I think the theory is that if they went to an amazing private school they do not know from real life experience about how the 'vast majority' of us spent our childhoods - what a comprehensive school is actually like etc, therefore are less capable of making educational policy about the comprehensive schools.

I certainly don't think it's jealousy - I'm not jealous of people going to Eaton. I think it's more like 'This guy did not have a childhood like the vast majority of this country including me, and I want a 'normal bloke I can relate to' in charge rather than someone who has been 'mollycoddled' ..

It's kind of parellel thinking to if the politician had NEVER heald down a proper job because daddy paid for everything so he didn't need to, that'd be a turn-off for me (and maybe you?), despite the fact he may have spent all that time STUDYING how to be a theoretically amazing leader! I'm not jealous of him for never having a job, I just question his experience of 'normal living' and being 'a normal bloke like me'!

(I am not defending this attitude, I am just explaining why I think it's an issue with the electorate, but the issue isn't jealousy)

You're probably right for a lot of people, but not stockhausen. He has shown himself (time and time again) to be idiotic and irrational, and jealousy is irrational.

With regards to 'life experience', politicians like David Cameron have probably spent more time in deprived areas and schools, and talking to teachers and people from these places than anyone else.

What is stockhausen expecting? That we get a chav who grew up never knowing his dad, in a house full of half-related siblings, went to a down and out school, dropped out of school without 5 GCSEs, did drugs and stabbed people, just because he had Real life experience'?
