Do boarding houses still exist?

I need to live down south for 1-2 months but will be funding it myself. Hotels are too expensive for that duration, and flat rentals don't seem to be for much less than 6 month lets at a time.

Does anyone know of any other options such as boarding houses that cater for terms of 1-2 months without being expensive services apartments?

I'm looking for somewhere around Reading/Slough or Maidenhead.

Young man, there's no need to feel down.
I said, young man, pick yourself off the ground.
I said, young man, 'cause you're in a new town
There's no need to be unhappy.

Young man, there's a place you can go.
I said, young man, when you're short on your dough.
You can stay there, and I'm sure you will find
Many ways to have a good time.

It's fun to stay at the Y-M-C-A.

Tried BnB's? Ring them up and tell them you are after long term, and can they cut you a deal. Minimum room servicing, no breakfast etc. Failing that, you might find a house share that offers short term deals.

Needs to be somewhere I can get peace and quite to work into the evening so as entertaining as a YMCA would be, it's probably not ideal!
I might try some B&B's to see if there are any longer term deals.

That is the first time that I've read something on this forum that has actually made me cry laughing. Well done Sir.
