Asus rampage III Extreme

Hi

Does anyone know whether i`ll have any problems fitting this board with even a big cooler such as the Noctua NH-D14 in a Coolermaster RC-1100 Cosmos S case???

Note: I don`t need to worry about the side panel fan on this case causing problems with big coolers as i've already taking care of that.

Thanks for resonding.

That's in a Lian Li B25B.

I have managed to get 222 BCLK so far without any issues :D.

Hello,

Helios, what brand and kind of RAM were you using ?
Did you manage using module with heat dissipator such as Ripjaws, Trident or Corsair Dominator with the NH-D14 ?
The NH-D14 is normally on top of the RAM slots and as I am building the same configuration i am wondering which kind of RAM i'll be able to use (noctua website has specified some of them as not compatible)...
And one last question, I also have a Xonar Essence STX (PCI Express). Is this possible to plug the card into the last PCIEx16 of the motherboard without loosing performance for the graphic card ? Seeing your picture, I think you are using the PCI version of the Xonar...
Thanks :)

I'm using the OCZ Platinum ram which don't have the tall heat spreaders. I don't think the others will be able to fit under the Noctua unless you raise the front fan. The NH-D14 will come with the 120mm at the fron and that has a bit more clearance than the 140mm fan. As you mentioned, Noctua's site would be best to check compatibility.

You should be able to use the last PCIe slot for a sound card no problem. It shoudn't impact on performance at all.

VK Said early april.

like the 11th-16th..

any later and I'm gonna be dissapointed.

Helios do you think Mushkin Redline, R3E and the Noctua D14 would all fit together? I know the Mushkin Redline is compatible on Noctuas site, but I wonder if anything will be different on the R3E Since the socket looks closer to the DIMMs

Hi Helios1234

I take it the Noctua NH-D14 CPU Cooler is better than both the Prolimatech Mega Shadow and Thermalright Venomous X CPU Cooler???

I was also wondering how loud is the Noctua??? and what would be the best fans to put on it for best cooling??? and have i read correctly that the only thing I have to investigate is what kind of memory i`m putting in my system before thinking of buying a Noctua NH-D14 because the this cooler goes over the ram slots and therefore it might not fit if the memory has a large heat spreader???

Thanks for responding.

Thanks for the feedback, is this possible to have a picture from the side.
I have 6 modules of DDR3 and i would like to make sure that both rad and fan will not make any problem. As you have said i can raise the fan but i don't know if the rad itself will make problem with the first DDR slot...

Anyway looking forward for your full review of the board :D

They should work if Noctua says so on their site. The height of the front 120mm can be adjusted to give more clearance. Do you have any links to the RAM? The distance between the CPU socket to the ram slots is no different to other boards.

It still covers the same 4 dimm slots on the R3E as it does on the Biostar.

Have a look below for the performance of all three coolers.

If you get the Noctua, then don't worry about changing the fans because they are already very efficient and very quiet. At the moment, I can hear my laptop more clearly than the computer and that's with the side panel off. The Thermalright is definitely a good alternative though but might end up more expensive when you factor in the cost of the fans. The only compatibility issue would be with the ram slot closest to the CPU socket.

What RAM are you using? The radiator shouldn't be covering the RAM but I'll have a proper look for you.

Edit: I just had a look and the radiator does cover the first slot. I'll try and get a picture of the clearance available but it won't be totally clear since it's inside my case.

Just been overclocking and my CPU is really limiting me. But the board has managed to unlock a lot of performance out of it compared to my Biostar!

Thanks for responding mate.

I`ll probably ask here first about the memory before buying a Noctua for this board.

I was going to get the Patriot Viper RAM that was on special but it wouldn't have fit with the NH-D14 due to the tall heat spreaders (thanks to Helios1234 for letting me know!). I also notice that the G.Skill Trident RAM isn't compatible either. The Corsair Dominator RAM is compatible only if you remove the upper section of the heat spreaders.

Below is the compatibility list for those interested:

Noctua NH-D14 RAM Compatibility List - DDR3

Good find!

I were hoping for a £280 - £300 price tag :(

Hmmmm ....

Will the Triton 88 fit

I got confirmation from a competitor site who contacted Prolimatech for me that the MK-13s will fit my V1 5770s, two of those are like £100, but they can be reused and will fit new graphics cards, so I never have to worry about buying new VGA coolers again. I'm waiting for OCUK to get them in stock for the free delivery though, and can wait. I got my 8 red fans, 4 around the CPU, and 4 would go onto the MK-13s for the graphics cards :).

I'll also need to get rid of the IDE optical drive and get a SATA one.

The mobo + cpu are the only expensive parts I have. Until I got this build, all my previous ones were <£150, then these were £225 each for the cpu + mobo, now I want Rampage III and the cheaper hex core being released later this year, then HD 6770s :p.

But that stuff will also sell for more when I buy my next stuff.

I want to try get £180 for my UD5, thats the absolute maximum I can expect, but I always have to go lower.

Cramming Ebay full of whatever junk I can find to sell now lol. Dont worry, I still need my mother and my kidneys.

I made a side by side comparison of the UD5 to this board, and the CPU socket it a little higher, but I have enough clearance below my top fan for my triton 88 to still fit.
