Friend lost passport...

Basically he's lost his passport and needs one ASAP.

Is there any way to get it "fast tracked" to him any quicker than the usual process?

Yes, I believe you can, you have to pay extra for the privilege and you have to be able to make it into one of the offices.

I think the 1 week turnaround is the fastest for a lost passport, you can't get one the same day from the office. Costs more too.

They can do it the same day (within 4 hours), it just costs extra.

You do have to book an appointment though, so get him to ring up and get the soonest available slot he can.

I had to travel from Bristol to Durham the day I was supposed to be flying to Switzerland as that was the only available appointment that day, and change my flight from Newcastle instead of Bristol. Fun times. Not.

I believe for a lost passport its a minimum of a week due to security checks.

Renewales can be done same day

Ah, you may have a point. I hadn't lost mine, it'd just run out.

£77.50 for standard service, £112.50 for one week fast-track. A lost passport CANNOT be replaced in anything less than one week, so if he is booked to travel before that he may as well cancel it.

Can you not go to one of the passport centres in person and pay for the "premium service", costing about £130?

I did this in January (I went to Peterborough) and the turn around was 4 hours. Mine was a passport renewal though; I noticed that the thing had expired three days before I was due to travel to Germany.
