Which Tracker

With it being a new or nearly new car are you sure that, if stolen, you'd want it back rather than simply having it replaced by the insurance company?

I never even thought of it like that! It's true, I wouldnt... i'd be scrubbing it with brillo going 'unclean unclean!'

Does it make a huge difference to insurance?

bledd. - Audi Q5 S-Line :)

Fox - interesting point, i was hoping it would deter theft but you are right if it was stolen im not sure id want it back and not simply a new replacement on insurance.

i guess if it was highly modified or a limited run of a vehicle etc a tracker would be for def. But I think you'll be ok without one :)

I would want a replacement Q5 S-Line and not my now ragged around the city centre by crims one back.

It's different if its somethng you've put a lot of time into making what it is, but a brand new car? No thanks. You've presumably paid a very high premium for a car nobody else has ever driven.

I always thought the best thing with regards to trackers was not to advertise it's there otherwise they could just find it and remove it, then where would you be.

I guess there is two sides to that point, and it also depends how much your car means to the criminals as to whether or not it's worth taking.

Cobra Trak5 is what I have, Thatcham 5, remote immobilisation etc etc. No loom issues with a GT-R, and very sensitive (roll 10 meters and your phone is ringing and the text alerts are coming in). Those that were not bothered about the loom went for the cheaper Tracker Horizon and Response and seem happy. I don't think anybody gets insured without one from the amount of discussion they generate.

Not really sure if it's the best thing in the world to have one but if the car is going to go, I guess I'd rather minimise the time the scum spend with it.

Well, kinda. Its cheaper to have a new one that a 1yr old used due to the silly waiting times, but yes, a very high price essentially.

Fett - I can see your point about minimising the time they have it, it does seem to be swings and roundabouts. Not have one and hope its never found, or fit one and hope they dont get anywhere...

I've never been offered any discount for a tracker.
Mate of mine had to have one on his Scooby - he couldn't get insured without one.
